FS: Specialized S Works Stumpjumper FSR, Large...

i'm selling my 05 s works stumpy in large black anodized frame size. the bike is basically stock (mavic crossmax sl wheelset, xtr drivetrain, fox talas rlc fork, septune rear shock, thomson seatpost and stem, etc.). the only non-stock items are an easton monkeybar carbon lo rise bar, wtb laser v saddle and continental vertical protection tires.

the bike is in very, very good shape, ridden but not abused. i'm an older rider who has no desire to leave the ground when riding. i bought the bike new as a leftover in early 2006 so it has two of 'my' seasons on it. this means during the dry season (i don't like muddy riding) a short ride during the week after work when i'm not travelling, usually in a regional park across the street from where i live, and probably 2 longer rides a month on the weekends. the bike has been ridden in tahoe a couple of times, auburn a few times, annadel in santa rosa a few times...you get the picture, normal xc riding with no racing. i'm reasonbly known over at the mtbr norcal board and try to keep my stuff in good shape. i've never had an issue with the bike (other than adjusting the brakes when they rub and shifter cables), clean it frequently and lube the chain before almost every ride. there are some very small cosmetic scratches on the anodized frame from rocks being thrown up, on the crank arms from my shoes and some scrapes on the crank bottoms, but nothing otherwise. no real stories.

attached are a few pix of the bike after a quick clean. they are teeny pix from my local cl ad in the sf bay area. the bike just got back from a tune and is running perfectly in addition to looking great. i have the high res versions if you are interested. the bike had an original list price of $5500, mine is for sale for $2100. happy to answer any and all questions. thanks for looking.

Is the bike still available? If so what is your address so I can ask you a few questions about the bike.

Hi there, your bike looks interesting - however, I am located in Denmark (that's northern Europe )

You would'nt happen to know someone going abroad soon?

well i'm travelling to london in a few weeks if that helps....

i'm sure this pricing is very, very cheap for someone in europe. i've seen bike prices over there, and they are much higher than in the states...i guess mostly due to our really weak currency these days!

well, it does help - I can easily meet you in London (there are cheap flights, especially if we agree on something some time in advance). Can you e-mail me the exact specs and some pictures? And a detailed description of faults - major or minor?

i'll send you some info, even though it is likely a theoretical exercise. there are zero faults, the bike has never had any issues and literally just got back from a tune and cleaning at a shop that i trust. there are minor scratches on the crank arms and a one inch spot on the top of the fork crown where the paint has rubbed off from cable rubbing (a sharpy will fix that), but that's it. the ano frame is pretty tough and doesn't scratch easily. all i've had to do is adjust cables and brakes plus keep it clean and lubed.

Thanks, could be interesting - apparantly, the old S-works (the anodized version) is not easily aquired. At the moment I ride the S-works Epic FSR but I have agreed with myself that I need a bike with a little more than 90 mm rear travel :-) Are the wheels totally true and spinning with good bearings? I do not mind a few scratches on cranks etc - believe me, my own cranks are totally smashed up from hitting stone etc when playing trail-rider :-) Is it a Talas 100-140 mm fork or the 130 mm version? Is the rear triangle with good bearings (no play or creaking)? I am sorry for these questions, but it is a bit hard to shop bike via the internet. Some "lady" from the UK is currently tryin to scam me into sending her a lot of money via money-order ("she" has the same email-adress as Old Rider on pinkbike, apparantly some known scammer), you should see the email-correspondance, it is quite fun

Well I am looking forward to hearing more about the bike, the only other one I have found is in Germany but costs more that twice..........

    Best regards, Morten

there are still some of the 'old' ones around in the states, not everyone likes the carbon version. the fork is the talas rlc 90-130mm. everything is good on the bike. the 05 and 06 frames are identical, and most think the 06 had an inferior parts kit. as i mentioned i just got it back from the shop where it had a tune, no creaking or other issues. they checked the wheels and the rear needed a minor amount of trueing, no big deal at all. i've had zero issues with it in my 2 seasons of moderate riding, just adjusting the brakes and cables plus keeping it clean and lubed. the ano frame resists scratching and is in great shape. the cranks have some scratches and there is a one inch spot on the fork crown where the dark grey paint has rubbed off from cables. that can be 'fixed' with a sharpy or a small piece of black tape if desired. if something goes forward i'd be happy to give you the contact info of the mechanic that just tuned it--i believe in full disclosure. i understand that buying a high end bike is a complicated process and want to make it as transparent as possible.

When are you going to London and what airport are you flying to? Would you consider disassembling the bike, packing it up and bringing it along? No worries, I am sort of a selv-trained bike-mechanic so I can fix it up again, no problem :-)

If we meet at the airport it should be possible to check both bike and cash (I guess there is a bank at the airport, I can find out).

Just to let you know, I am also looking into the bike in germany (which is new). So I may bail out still

If you are still interested, we should maybe talk on the phone...?

When I know the airport and date/time I can find out if there are some cheap connections, this is of course a factor in my decision.

BTW, could you send me some detailed pictures via email?

Let me know what you think,

    Best regards, Morten

i think this has been a fun exercise...but you should check on the local bike first. i'm going to london in 2 weeks, and hopefully will have this sold locally before then. i got three calls on it yesterday. happy to send you pix...however, no way i would bring this over without having cash in hand. otherwise i'd be in london stuck with a bike..

OK - that makes sense. And of course, I cannot send you money. So I guess it ends there :-)

Sometimes it works out, I flew to Luxembourg last fall to pick up my road-bike, eBay is my friend :-) Danish prices are rediculous, due to taxes, so I buy most of my gear on the internet. And eBay makes it (kinda) safe for both parties.

    Good luck with the sale.

    Best regards, Morten
