I am not trying to attack anyone. Sorry, if I sound like a douche. I am just not in the greatest of moods right now. I wish I had a saw so I could cut off my leg. Then I might be in a little better mood.

I fucked up and I know it. This shit happened in November. I dealt with what I thought I had to, got it done, and that was it.

Same type of thing happened at my school- the school got involved if you got in trouble off campus.

You should have like a student liason or something similar in the Office of Student Services (or whatever CU has) that you can explain your case to.

I'd say just go to this person, explain you did your time with the city- outline what they had you do...ALL OF IT...and say you are still under the defferred thing until November through the city/state/whatever. Tell them you did the fines and attended the drunk classes through the school as part of your "sentence".

Just explain politely that its tough to get this email a couple weeks before graduation, especially when you thought you had done pretty much everything needed.

Dont expect anything...but if you go in and not be an asshole, you might find someone who can take a second look. Having the school impose separate punishment is fairly common. But right before you need to graduate might merit some consideration on their part.

Is there a faculty member you're friendly with (advisor or dean, ideally) and can talk to about this? I didn't go to a big school, so maybe it's different, but the one time I caught shit for an on-campus infraction it definitely helped to have a professor go to bat for me.

I'd flunk you purely on your inability to communicate via the written word.

Oh, and charge people with theft for something that was never stolen. Sorry I don't fit in with your idiot trustafarian friends, Buster!
Did you get a patchouli enema while tied up by a gang of longhairs or something?

Ask them what happened to double jeopardy.

Apology accepted. I am just trying to say that the energy you will expend trying to fight this will likely be greater than the energy expended to compete any silly unforeseen unannounced task that they now have for you. You did not tell us what they want you to do.

BTW, the leg thing on the other hand does not sound like small potatoes...Heal up quick.

I'm amazed this is such a big deal. i used to make detours and close roads all the time in highschool, never got caught but didn't realize how much it mattered.

How did you get caught by the way?

I know it sounds like CU has too much money and will fight anything but in my experience at UM if you show up with a lawyer or appear to have even vague knowledge of the law they usually back down, they might have the money but its not usually worth their time and energy to fight something so trivial.

I got caught by a cop car who was parked down the street. Didn't see them till it was too late.

Sounds like someone doesn't like you and stirring the pot even more will likely cause you to not graduate, so put your pride in your back pocket, suck it up and get the piece of paper. Its tough luck, but thats the way it goes when you do stupid shit.

Yeah, that someone is called Karma. And they have been fucking with me for a solid 8 or 9 years.

I would love to know who I killed or what I did in my last life that has fucked my karma so much in this one.

I guess trying your best to be a good person and helping others when you can is just not good enough.

I will do whatever I have to do to graduate, but the lady is making it sound like there is no possible way to get it done in time.

Basically, I just had a meeting on campus so they could inform me that I am fucked.

You should consider doing the community service on a children's cancer ward. It would fix your karma, or at least fix your bitching about your karma being the reason you got caught doing stupid drunken stuff - NTTIAWWSDS.

I remember when I was getting ready to graduate college I was very stressed. You have a lot of life decisions in front of you. You've put all these years into studying and getting a degree. You feel tapped out.

Something like this coming out of the blue is certainly cause for major bumming out. Like getting hit w/ a 2x4. I'm sorry.

    Should we read this as;
-You were stressed getting ready to graduate...
-So you hit someone with a 2x4...
-It's finally caught up to you and is a HUGE HUGE problem...
-You are sorry for hitting them...
    ???

Phish, proceed with humility, patience and persistence and it will all work out!!! You are fucked!

Oh, well if that is for real than I guess I would change my previous advise and fight it.

I figured they wanted to tack on 4 hours of unexpected comm serv.

Just exactly what do they want you to do?

Karma has nothing to do with getting caught. That was obviously 100% my stupid fault.

and what the hell does that last acronym stand for?

No question CU is being dicky here (though I went there and loved it) but I'm not sure it's double jeopardy. The way I understand it, double jeopardy is being tried for the same crime twice. It seems like CU wants to punish the lad some more for the conviction. And being punished twice (or more) is not unusual. Unfortunately.

I won't know until my next meeting monday. I could have just agreed to all the charges (including theft) and gotten the process started a few days earlier, but I just cannot agree to the theft charge.

I can't think of a better analogy, but its like going to jail for 6 months. Being totally released and free to go, and then having the jail call you up 5 months later and saying, "Oh yeah, we want you to serve another three months....cause we feel like it."

Don't you have a dean or advisor/professor that is working with you on graduating? They should be following your academic process- so why can't you talk to them regarding all of this?

Then I would go to the Dean. If your tight on time, it's worth a shot...
I taught a class for 2 semesters at CU- not exactly impressed with the system and wouldn't recommend it. Too many hoops, good luck.

Yeah, as much as I had fun here etc. I honestly wouldn't recommend anyone go to this school.

They are so disorganized its not even funny. I know many people who had to stay an extra semester because the school promised to offer a certain required class, and then said required class was not available when the time came.

All they care about it money here. Education is just a side-effect if you are lucky.
