Is this not just a little fucking ridiculous?

So, as most of you know I got in trouble for drunkenly moving a sign last November. 5 months ago.

I already did my hours of comm. service and alcohol classes. As far as I knew it was a done deal.

So I got an email last week saying I had to make an appointment with campus judicial affairs.

So I go in today and basically they are acting as their own little court. They want me to speak with someone about my case, pay more money, and do more classes.

    The kicker:

"You must complete everything before the end of the semester or you cannot graduate."

    UHHHHH WHATTTTTT!???

Thats in 3 weeks. I have schoolwork to do and now am dragging around a piece of meat that used to be my leg.

They also want to charge me with Theft. Would you consider moving a sign 15 feet "theft"?

I know I complain alot, but I think this is just ridiculous. I had no knowledge any of this was going to happen, and the fact that they took 5 months to contact me, yet want me to complete all their shit in less than 3 weeks is just a little unfair IMO.

I would have gladly completed anything they wanted me to, HAD I EVEN KNOWN ABOUT IT.

It does seem to me they are making an awfully big fucking deal out of this.

What exactly did the sign say?

Did they give you reason for why they waited until now to contact you. Isn't there a service there that will give students some free legal advice?

Also, have you asked for an explanation as to why they consider moving a sign to be tantamount to theft?

This is an institution of higher learning, right. Tell them you need to be enlighted as to their line of thinking here. In order for you to learn, you know...

IF there was an original agreement outlining the punishment (which you completed) and they are now tacking on to it, consider having a lawyer contact them promising massive legal headaches if they persist with their arbirtary punishments and or interfere with your graduation.

This is CU we are talking about, in the same city that prosecuted a kid for “throwing a missile”, he was hacky sacking on a sidewalk

I completed 20 hours of comm service as issued by the city of boulder. I also completed 8 hours of alcohol classes as issued by the city, but the classes were done on campus within the campus alcohol education system.

I am also on a deferred sentence until next November. Personally, I thought that was more than enough punishment for moving a sign 15 feet.

Getting a lawyer at this point would just be a waste of time. This fucking place has more money than they know what to do with. They could care less if I get 10 lawyers. All I want to do is graduate. I am not a bad person. In all the time I have been here moving the sign was my only violation with the city or campus.

    I'm gonna go puke now.

This is exactly why I left that shithole. The faculty as a whole is so far out of touch with reality I couldn't fucking stand it.

Okay. I can now understand that this was a potentially un-safe thing you did...not sure the specifics but in general people do need to know when a road is closed. Could this have caused an accident?

However, you did NOT steal the sign. And it is WRONG of them to state that you did.

If I were you I would be stuck on that terminology like a leech. I would want to know why they are insisting I stole the sign. I would insist on that theft thing being removed from the whole complaint.

I'd just tell them to change it to "did something stupid while drunk that could have caused harm to others but didn't."

It still was a bad move, hopefully you won't do it again. But you did not commit a theft...

Not to kick you when you are down, but you did say you were bored the other day. Maybe you should sac up, get the shit done, and graduate?

I'm not that retarded. I didn't move a sign from a closed road that could have open ditches in it etc. I moved a sign that was not in use, into a very very very unbusy side street that was perfectly fine. I wasn't going to cause any accidents. Worse case scenario a driver would have stopped at the sign, and then realized that the road was fine and drive around.

Yeah, I flunk a paper on manmade global warming because a student's stance is that it is still totally unproven, and this disagrees with me.

Oh, and charge people with theft for something that was never stolen. Sorry I don't fit in with your idiot trustafarian friends, Buster!

Ask them what happened to double jeopardy.

Well, considering I didn't even fucking know about this until today I don't know how I could have completed anything related to it.

Hey, I wasn't trying to pick on you, MOHSHS. I didn't know the specifics--that's why I asked for the facts. I understand better now.

Why did they have the sign out if it wasn't in use? Did you ask them that?

It seems they have even less reason to be on your case. I know you just want to graduate and all...but do not let them intimidate you into accepting a charge of theft or endangerment or whatever. You were drunk and moved a sign, no more no less.

    Stand up for yourself man!

Don't sell yourself short, you're quite a slouch.

So, as you're talking to the authorities about it, casually reach up on his desk and move a pencil from one side to the other. When he asks you wtf you're doing, ask if that was theft...

Might read some a them 'going into canadia with an arrest record' and get those copies of how you cleared all the hurdles to save some time when ya end up thinking about skiing Nelson or sumpin...

Also, I want to say that...as a person with HUGE HUGE problems of my own right now, I can still say that I don't necessarily think of this as a "small potatoes" thing and here's why...

I remember when I was getting ready to graduate college I was very stressed. You have a lot of life decisions in front of you. You've put all these years into studying and getting a degree. You feel tapped out.

Something like this coming out of the blue is certainly cause for major bumming out. Like getting hit w/ a 2x4. I'm sorry.
