Arrow 3-Day TR: MAGS ON A MISSION - Loveland, Vail, Berthoud (April 11-13, 2008)

No fluff here ... too tired to turn this into some drawn-out story. I give you pics.

    Muzak:

    Cirrus: "Back on a Mission"

    Day 1: Loveland

Attendance: NPG, Nancy (non-mag that now lurks), P_McPoser, Poop*Ghost, nick > jesus, MOHSHSIHd, JeffreyJim, Crinkle, freshie247, ukeskis

Nancy starts off a shitty day like this:

MOHSHSIHd then kicks it up a notch off J-Rock:

    freshie247 follows:

Not sure who this is (crinkle? or that other dude?)

    freshie360:

    Freshiejesusair off Crack Rock:

    ukeskis goes high and tight:

    More freshie360

And with less Jesus air this time:

ukeskis charges fast off the cornice:

    Photos now by P_McPoser

    More spinning:

And then off the launch pad:

JeffreyJim tight as ____________ (fill in the blank):

nick > jesus tight as ____________ (fill in the blank):

    NPG? Not so much.

And on the 3rd attempt? More not so much.

    Unknown subject:

Would the owner of these please stand up?

    Day 2: Vail

Attendance: NPG, montanaskier, mrs. montanaskier, cmsummit, and Below Zero

    Mrs. Montanaskier gets deep:

Then decides she doesn't care for it too much:

Enter John "Follow Me!" Deere boy:

We traverse out towards Bushwacker off the top of BSB. Mr/s Montanskier decide to drop while the rest of the group has other ideas and heads over a few more shots.

    cmsummit sequence:

    Below Zero:

We then hiked our way over to Inner Mongolia, but had to turn away because it was already mutilated:

    cmsummit:

    Day 3: Berthoud Pass

Attendance: NPG, killclimbz, Franz along with non-mags Doug, Emily, and Brandon

    Photos: NPG and killclimbz

    Another Berthoud bluebird day:

Group of skiers making through way towards No Name:

First up = first down = poor NPG:

    Emily comes down second:

Rippin Doug hits the middle with 1/2 a turn:

    Next shot over comes killclimbz:

    And now Brandon:

The group (Brandon, Emily, Franz, killclimbz, and Doug)

    Damage on the right:

    Damage on the left:

killclimbz and Cody dropping into XYZ:

    NPG:

We needed a halftime beer break after hitting North Chute off Russell and XYZ:

NPG tries to get artistic while delaying the group even longer:

Never quite seen blue skies like we saw this day:

A few rare tracks coming down the headwall:

Working our way towards Postage Stamp:

    killclimbz salivates over his line:

    And drops into Corner Pocket:

NPG gives this untracked business a try:

    Damage:

Next group drops albeit a bit pissed off at us (we repaid with breaking trail soon after):

    Corner Pocket slayed:

A look at the large slide off the headwall (see Slide Zone for more pictures/info):

After corner pocket when headed up the ridge separating Creek Two and Current Creek (I believe this area is known as "Dry Gulch" ... at least that's how I interpret the name given the CAIC writeup this morning). Killclimbz and I tried it the other week but to no success. This time around, we found an easier path up the 40* slope that required only two switchbacks. Given our douching of the previous hit, killclimbz gladly broke trail towards the north chutes.

    View from above:

Lap #4 had blower snow. The time on the clock read 4 PM. We didn't complain.

NPG sees what he can do with the shoulder:

    More damage:

    Total up = 2400 feet
    Total down = 3200

    Time = 6:44

Nicely done up there. We saw you guys slay the north flanks of Russell and almost caught up to you on Hidden Knoll. After seeing the damage you did to the X, Y & Z chutes we busted up the headwall and got the line where the cornice was small. I've got some video I'll try to get up later. It seemed like there weren't many people up at Berthoud, but those who were there were getting after it.

Was the snow still holding well on that shot off the headwall or was it getting a bit heavy?

I'm still surprised North Chute was untouched when we got up there around 11 AM.

Ah man, so bummed out that you didn't catch up to us. Have yet to make a single turn with you this season. Could be a few good days coming up later this week.

Agreed, unfortunately I am headed down to Wolf Creek this coming weekend. There is some much needed maintenance to be done on the cabin, plus a line or two I have been eyeing for a while that should be in good shape now.

We have a great corn season setting up, so stay off the rock for a bit and we can get out and nail some bigger lines together.

When you were on this mission were you wishing someone could cure your lonely condition? Or was that Young MC?

    Nice pics.
