Philly mags or ex-philly mags, why?

No I am not talking about ladies "she's quite a philly", but wondering how many of your minions/maggots are from the Philadelphia area. Bobmc's thread on Impressions got me thinking. I was wondering if there something in that area that forms and shaped us to be here or just a whole lot of dumb luck. I mean, we have

    Plakespear
    funken
Bum Z from Harrisburgh, close enough
    myself
I just read that Tyrone moved from the philly area to CA.
who else? I am sure there are more
Alex P Keaton is there, but for school, he makes that obvious

For me, growing up skiing in the poconos was always a tease, knowing that there were much bigger and badder moutains out there to be conquered, which made me take all my vacations in the winter to Tahoe, Vt, or Maine to ski the bigger and better snow. Skiing the poconos was like Methadone, just enough, but not quite enough to satisfy the fix.

    Just curious

    Worse than you...

    Grew up just outside Trenton...

Pops would take us to Shawnee cause it was closer than Camelback-ugggghhhhhhh, and probably cheaper-

How many times can one do that 20 yard double-diamond (renegade?), I mean Marjies and The Asp was where it was 'at'.

At least they handed out garbage-bag-panchos when it was raining.

Stoy grew up on the Pocono's as well (me, him, and funkenw used to ski together at Jack Frost, and then randomly discovered we were all posting here by coincidence).
hardrider and kush are also from the Lancaster area I think.

I grew up in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Area and had more than a few season passes at Big Boulder / Jack Frost, Montage, and Elk. Moved down to Philly (well, suburbs: Paoli and Malvern) after college for work for 2 years, got hitched, then bee-lined it for th west coast. I'm actually looking forward to the next time I get to ski back in the Poconos....been 3 years now.

don't know what it is....maybe just a desire to the get the F out

grew up in Yardley 30 minutes north of the city.

My parents had a place up at Camelback and I probably got 30 days a year in between the Poconos and then occasional vermont and colorado trip. Paid $500+ for a season pass at Camelhump. Went to CU and paid $300 for vail resorts pass and $89 for 6 days at aspen.

I'm in town for the next week or so if any Philly mags/minions want to meet up for beer or phillies game.

Buzz, I knew there was more, I should have known better.
Did you know Josh Nesko? Use to race against him all the time....there are others that I know from there to but too embarrased to list.

1st day on skis was at Vernon Valley/Great Gorge (got a new name now I think?)

Plenty of days at Doe Mtn., Jack Frost/Big Boulder, Elk, Camelback, Montage.

Never skied pow til a Vail trip in '90. 18". Hooked ever since. This place just feeds the habit.

I grew up and learned to ski in Michigan, and lived in Downingtown PA for high school. I went from skiing a couple times a week when we lived in Brighton to being lucky to convince my mom to drive us somewhere once a year to ski. I didn't really like living in PA - that might have had something to do with it...

My dad grew up in Philly and learned to ski at Spring Mountain. Their main attraction there now is the base lodge arcade with the ski hill as an extra. I have cousins and aunts in the Philly/Trenton/yardley area. As for me, I reside in Northern New Joisy. Warren county to be exact. I've skiied every year at Shawnee and Camelback and have fond memories of learning between my dad's knees on the Shawnee bunny hill. We would go every tuesday night, then we "moved on up" to the big leagues with Camelback. Though the skiing here blows big time, it has a certain nostaligic vibe to it for being the place I learned the sport that I'm now so hopelessly addicted to.

Grew up around Pittsburgh skiing Seven Springs then moved to Philly after I graduated college. Lived in the Phoenixville and West Chester for about 6 years. Skied places in the Poconos every now and then.

Altagirl- My wife went to D-Town. Don't know when you graduated but you may know her or her sister. Last name was Lawrence. Says she never wants to go back there to live. Loves CO too much now.

Clarks Summit, PA here. And went to undergrad in Philly.

Grew up & skied Elk Mountain during my youth. During undergrad, I got the chance to ski in every overgrown zit in the Mid-Atlantic, including Tussey, Wisp, Seven Springs, etc. Didn't go to Montage much as Elk had the (slightly) better snow. I actually started skiing before there was even a Montage! (God, I feel old.)

I love Utah, but I feel so spoiled now. When I was younger, I had a very high tolerance for utterly horrible skiing conditions. I remember one spring, the mud was so bad at the base of Elk that they spread hay throughout the lift lines so you could make it through. I also remember having to straightline through leaves so you could make it from one sliver of snow on the trail to the other.

    Those were the days...

I graduated in 91. I can't fathom living there again either.... I'm way too addicted to mountains at this point.

    Thumbs up

Grew up 30 minutes south east of Philly in NJ. Blue Mtn was my first experience on sticks at the ripe old age of 17, when I could start driving. Proceeded to ski off and on through college at Frost, Boulder, Blue, Camelback, and Shawnee. Worked at a shop in Green brook, NJ senior year in college and really caught the ski bug. Now it's up to VT every weekend until I can get my arse to move out West.

I moved down here from the Catskills a little over a year ago for work. Don't really plan on spending the rest of my life here. CUBUCK- I'm in Langhorne. PM me when you're back in town.

EDIT: Anyone going to the bike races this week?
