Leroy - are you sure that was Dex? I remember that douche Truckee Local trying his best (which wasn't very impressive) to douche it up, but I don't remember Dex being a douche (which is weird). I may very well be mistaken and I'm too lazy to go check. Not that I'm saying "don't rip on Dex" - hell, rip away.

Whatever happened to Truckee Local? FULL-BLOWN AIDS!!!?

Seriously Dex - what you should do is start hanging out on some gun boards. Make some e-friends and after a couple hundred posts, try unloading your inheritence there. I'm sure those guys would just really take a shine to a fellow such as yourself.

Depending on where you live, I'd put an ad in a paper and sell it if you have no interest in keeping it. Check out your firearm in Gunbroker.com to get an idea of what they are selling for. In pretty much all the states west of the Mississippi private sales of firearms, and long arms in particular are unregulated. No need for a FFL for a face to face exchange in your home state. Use an FFL holder if you are doing a mail or internet sale.

I once had a friend of my mother give me a winchester model 12 20 gauge because here idealistic hippy son wanted to fill the barrel with concrete or some other BS. I hunted with it for a few years and sold it for $400, which might have been too cheap.

The reason I use only FFl dealers, is it unloads your legal responsibility to the feds..If you firearm is used in a crime, going through a FFL absolves you of responsibility..Otherwise I think its bullshit, and fucking hate it..For family, I just gift it.

If your browning Lightning is for sale, please let me know.

PM me a list of what you have. Maybe we can get together on a price.

    From last Saturday's Zombie Shoot.

That's all I took - I was too busy setting stuff up and shooting. Some other guys took a lot more photos, but I haven't seen them yet.

Just ordered my new lever. Browning BLR Lightweight '81 in a .358 Winchester. Going to leave just the iron sights on it for a while for some all purpose whitetail stalking in the brush.

Jesus H Christ man, I've never taken any of my guns appart that far. If I tried to do it all at once I'd have a hard time remembering which parts went with which guns. OCD much? I've put probably 10,000 rounds through my s/w 617 without cleaning anything on it.

HFB, the BLR is a cool gun, bit different action than any other levergun, cool design. Box magazine is nice too.

Worked one of the "sight in" days at the range last weekend.

    Wow.

The scarey part is that these are the guys who are at least firing their weapons prior to going onto the woods. It's hard to imagine shooting 20" + groups off sandbags from a bench at 100 yards. It's just not that hard. I've referred to gun deer season in WI as "clown season" for a long time, but this is the first time I've been at a crowded range a week prior to the season. I really wish I would have shot video or at least taken a few photos. Just spectacular. Funny thing is, a lot of these guys are the same guys who complain about how the wolves are eating all thier deer. There's a popular bumper sticker that reads: "Earn buck - shoot a wolf". Well, have at it dumbass. If you can't even get on paper at 100 yards I don't think the wolves have anything to worry about.

Seriously - even the shittiest rifles manufactured in the past century should be able to keep it under 4 MOA. Just unreal.

I know exactly what you witnessed and it is unreal, although I've mysteriously had my scope go way off from some spectacular falls.

Thankfully, when I sighted in this year, the first 3 shots all went into the paper in the size of a nickle. I put the rifle right back in the case after that.

I was in a gunnison walmart a few years ago at the start of the season and this guy is staring at the cover of the colorado guide book really confused.

Me "So... what's with the cover"

Him "Is this an elk?" pointing at an elk.

    Me "That's a cow..."

Him "What do elk look like?"

Me "Don't worry you won't see any... please don't shoot anybody's pets."

I guess maybe he wouldn't have hit them?

A guy here in Idaho (from California) bought a several-thousand dollar landowner's bull tag. He ended shooting a rancher's llama from 75 yards....didn't know it wasn't an elk until the farmer showed up.

Every clown season here more than a few cows get mistaken for deer. I remember back in the late 80's some idiot actually shot another guy's Jeep CJ thinking it was a deer. At least he hit it.

Last few seasons everybody's been complaining about how there are no deer. I've seen tons and tons of deer this year. And as far as wolves go, I'd be more worried about these cats:

Funny story - right around dark dark the other guy I was with was zeroing the scope on some guy's shotgun (cause it was getting dark fast and the owner was an absolutely horrific shooter) and between shots a doe just walks out from behind the 50 yard back stop and just nonchalantly saunters off the range. That was the weirdest part of a really weird day. Which reminds me, I gotta e-mail him. He found one of my knives in the parking lot. kthnxbye

Favorite activity to do in any establishment that sells guns:

Walk straight up to the counter look the person behind the counter in the eye and say "whats the cheapest gun you got"?

Amazing the reactions you will get. I once had a mom and pop gun store owner ask me to leave and I once had the clerk at walmart immediatly hand me a 20ga mossberg and say "ON SALE 180 bucks"

Wally world's re entry into the gun market in a serious way will put tons of mom and pops out of business. Very little margin on actual firearms anyway. Like everything, soft goods and accessories are the big tickets.

I can hit a 4" steel plate at 100 yds until I run out of ammo with my K-31. Probably about 7 out of 10 with my AK-47. Both have iron sights. I'm not lumping you in with the clowns at the range, nor am I claiming to be an average Joe shooter - just sayin'.

I love venison, but I don't really get charged up about killing deer to get it. There is no such thing as accurate enough. If I'm gonna smoke a deer so I can eat it, I'm going to do so in the absolute most humane way possible.

I do hear what you're saying about set up versus shooting skill. Some of these clowns had no idea that their scopes could be adjusted (or how to adjust them) or that they had variable magnification. But it still goes back to being a Fudd. The vast majority are too stupid and/or lazy to bother to learn how to actually shoot or to properly set up and maintain their weapons. It's insulting and disrespectful to the animals they're hunting.

If they couldn't get on paper at 100, I'd move them down to 25 and then work back up. You should have seen the 25 yard groups. I could get tighter groups with a sling shot.

Nice rifle; IMHO the nicest lever gun in production. Give us an update once you've shot it.

Short of that, even any deer shot with pretty much any "adequate" rifle in the heart/lungs will suffer some - or lots. I've seen it. There's pain, fear, and confusion, then they die. Suffering is relative, imo it's gotta be in the engine room, it has to be the most humane way. A few chaps (pro stalkers) I know put them down with neck shots sometimes. But the target is too small for me to be comfortable with. And depending on the species, deers brain is tiny. Deer mumping about the woods with their jaw shot off cos some clown reckons they can do a head shot = not pretty.
