Yeah. Can't find one to see. Trying to figure out the total cost of the Sako vs the Barrett. Based on stuff I've read, looks like the Sako outshoots the Barrett. Barrett has the cool factor going though.

Who doesn't believe you could cut down a tree with a gun?

My ex GF's dad and I would sit in the back yard with a case of millwalkee's best and his gun collection and pick a tree for the day. I shot just about every gun imaginable (ak, Desert eagle, mini 14, glock g19c, browning 1911, anaconda, HK, the list goes on) and we would always take out the tree BTW.

McMillan TAC-338 would be a nice 338 Lapua too. If you reload, I'd take a look at the 338 Edge. Slight performance gains over the 338 Lapua (maybe 100fps, so negligible really) but cheaper brass. It's a 300 RUM necked up to take .338 bullets. I don't have any actual experience with either cartridge, though-I've just read about them.

Another neat-sounding cartridge if you have the budget and reload is the 338 Allen Magnum. 408 Chey-Tac necked down to take .338 bullets- supposedly will launch 300gr SMK's up to 3400fps. Said to be accurate out to 3008 yards.

Unless you have a store of powder right now reloading could be hard, though. I can't find hardly any of the powder I use around here and I don't feel like paying the $22 hazmat shipping fee to get it from an online dealer.

For the last few posts... I can suggest not giving a dime to Cheaper Than Dirt or Chey-Tac.

CTD is price gouging with the best of them lately and Chey-Tac feels that nothing they make should be available to civilians, only government.

I tried to contact Chey-tac and their customer service is absolutely horrible!!! A guy I know wanted to do their training and they didn't even respond to his emails.

Wish I had an investment in an ammo company. They have to be making hand over fist. How come no one is screaming price gouging like they did over gas?

    humble beginnings

Thought I'd throw up the modest collection I put together in the past year.

Cooey Hiawatha single shot split action 12 ga.
I have no idea the history/age of this gun. I picked this up for $50 in an estate sale, and it locks up tight, shoots fine. Definitely not the ideal waterfowl gun, but it'll do on a student's budget.

    Tikka T3 Lite .270
I love this gun. Also picked it up (barely) used, and took a nice whitetail last fall. The scope is a POS, and I'm thinking that I'll put something a bit nicer on it before the fall.

2 years ago I wouldn't have ever thought I'd be a gun owner, then I moved to Alberta.

Cheaper Than Dirt has always been quite a bit more Expensive Than Dirt. Right now they've got Wolf black box 7.62x39 for $15.49 per box (20 rounds). That's by far the worst gouge on that particular ammo I've seen yet.

Saw a CheyTac m200 Intervention on Gunbroker a week back - starting bid was something like $10,500. That's one of those rifles that's really rad and all, but you could buy both the TRG-42 and the Timberwolf for the same price.

Okay, fine, Delta Force has the same conversion kits available too - I just mentioned cheaper than dirt because they had both conversion kits available at their site, IIRC Delta only had the Ceiner.

Look, for stocks, accessories, mags, etc, their prices don't seem that bad. Of course ammo's expensive - it's that way everywhere, just buy from someone else...just like CostCo usually has the best price on gas in my area bar none.

That certainly is a most generous offer. And I guess you'll only shoot it on the first Sunday of the month??

Have any made their way south, and any idea of price??

seriously i wiould hardly ever shoot it, it's not like i'm going to spend a lot of time shooting at 100m with a 338LM and our local F-class range barely gets open for the summer due to shoddy road maintenace and bridge wash out and finding 1200m to let the air out of coyotes is counter productive....

going for 8000-10000$ new in CDN$ they have (or had inventory) quite recently now that they have finished supplying the CDN Armed Forces and some have made it to the US for military evaluation
if you are really interested i can find out what the deal is for US importation (our export laws are more user friendly than yours right now)

    maybe go to pm?

Expensive guns are like girlfriends. Every now and then, you want to take them out and play with them. It may be a spur of the moment thing.

But definitely not something that needs to be 1,000 miles away

Holy shit - I had no idea how expensive those were! I guess I thought they were on the same level as the TRG. That's pretty insane - especially since the TRG is considered one of the most accurate .338s available.

very nice revolver, good choice. i really like those grips, they make it so it doesn't feel like a hammer to the palm every time you pull the trigger. I'm not a fan of magnaporting, particularly if you're trying to shoot someone/something at night. Also, since I'm a tough guy, I can handle a little recoil and barrel lift.

I have a weird theory about rubber grips: I think that with certain calibers they actually transfer more energy to your hand/wrist/arm/shoulder. Hear me out - a wood grip will allow a slight amount of "slippage" during recoil and this reduces felt recoil more than a little give in a rubber grip (unless you're wearing gloves or something). I had some Hogue grips on my Dan .44 mag for a brief time and I could shoot longer with just the stock wood grip so I switched back. It may sound strange and maybe it only works for handguns with a lot of recoil, but that's my theory.

Here's my baby.. my boyfriend made me some custom ziricote grips.
    Kimber ultra cdp II 9mm.

If those didn't post, could someone please help me? I haven't figured out the picture posting very well yet...

    Also have
S&W 686 (.357) revolver. rad gun. shoots great. this is what i would bring with me hiking. need to find the right holster for backpacking.

Tanfoglio Witness (EAA/CZ) Match 10mm. also a rad gun. straight shooter if i've ever met one, and the action is beautifully smooth.

Kimber .22 match pistol. shoots so straight, you could use it as a distance level. (well, not that distant).

Sig 226 9mm. as one of our local gunstore owners said "that's my end of the world gun. I keep it under the seat of my truck. It'll work no matter what." shoots smoother than taco shits.

keltec pf9 9mm. this is my bf's carry pistol. it's tiny. 18oz empty.

ruger 10-22. very nice rifle. scope makes it feel like cheating.

some shotgun. i don't like the kick, so don't really know much about it.

Gatling gun. that kit from cabelas. with a ruger 10-22 on each side, this is the most fun you could possibly have with "a" .22.

    mm... i love guns.

next purchase thoughts are a sig 226 in .22 with the threaded barrel. keeps the neighbors happier.
