CU maggots: pass-fail classes you don't really have to attend?

So... here's the situation: I'm registering for fall classes soon (my senior year), which is contingent upon finding two 3-hour bullshit classes in the spring. The idea is to take two real classes and fill in with another 6 bullshit hours pass-fail (in the spring), just enough to meet my 120-hour graduation requirement. This way I could ski my fucking balls off, focusing only on my last IPHY class and my photo class without having to worry about going to the other two classes much.

The question: Have any of you guys taken any "attendence not necessary" classes this spring or any spring, in which there are no clicker points, and you just have to show up and take some tests (no bullshit homework, etc.)? I couldn't care less what class it is, so long as I don't have to write, and all I have to do is study a little, take the tests, and show up to class once in a while, squeaking by with a passing grade.

Do foreign language classes fit the bill? ITAL 1010 or 1020 maybe? Looking for anything. I'd need 6 hours total.

Suggestions? Knowing this is possible will help me decide what to take in the upcoming fall... Many thanks in advance.

in my experience, the more worthless the class, the more explicit the attendance requirement.

what you want is a class that becomes a joke due to a combination of student and teachers not caring, but one without attendance requirements written into the syllabus.

Good luck, I've lucked into a few of these but it's impossible to tell at first. i had this sweet english class where everyone got an A or a B. I had no idea what was going on, or what books we were reading. Grade: A-.

I'd say definitely not foreign languages, they can be a bitch. The only class I've ever dropped was german 1010 or whatever german 1 is. One of the guys in my dorm freshman year spent literally 3-4 hours every day working on his chinese 1 class.

Squatch is right. If a class is a joke, attendence will be mandatory. All my bullshit stupid humanities requirements had attendence mandatory and a significant part of your grade, but all my engineering classes don't give a fuck. I skip at least 50% of those with no problem, its the crappy humanities teachers with sticks up their asses who think their classes have some deep meaning/usefulness.

That said, I've heard that history of jazz (non-majors) is a great easy bullshit class with no work. Its upper division humanities credit too.

I think your best bet is to find something you are good at and take the most basic class available in it. My summer jobs are computer programming, so I took the first few comp sci classes for credit. I literally went 5-6 times all semester: 2-3 times for the first week, and 2 tests + the final.

I took Jazz History at the University of AZ, and actually enjoyed it very much. Not a jazz fan.

Geology classes man. Most have clickers though... but you dont even need to be there to get grades in the 80s. I'd say lower level history classes, but there's writing involved there, but no one keeps track of attendance.

I am taking Contemporary Philosophy right now. Phil 3180. Prof is Tait Zsabo (sp?).

I am not taking it pass-fail cause my crackhead of an advisor told me I couldn't for some reason. Either way my GPA means nothing to me, so I just planned on passing the class. I NEVER go (no attendance policy) and only show up for the tests. So far I have an 80%. 5 two-page reading responses all semester (these are a joke)....

    easiest class ever. take it.

good stuff for dropout ski bums. an instructor friend this year was still enrolled at New Mexico State full time while working here full time, only going back for tests...

any classes you can test out of anymore? i got a semester's worth my freshman year, but when attending class went from highly recommended to required, i had to just drop out and move to colorado. jeebus (jack or jose maybe) told me too.

how the fuck are you graduating next year. damn. Are you even going to be 21 by then?

And with pass-fail classes be careful. I've never failed a class but came real close with both my PF classes. The mentality of only needing to pass is dangerous....

First rule is to schedule everything on the same day or two, leaving days open to ski without remorse.

    What about independent study?

Chinese at CU was rough. I barely made it through first 3 semesters. I failed once. You had to be willing to do a lot of work.

With many classes, it depends a lot on who the teacher is. Check the fcq's. I can't remember what was easiest.

If you want something interesting (but a bit more work), take the class on black holes. You have to go every class, though.

As somebody who could easily ski any day of the week in college, I say you take a communications or art history class.

    Why? Hot dumb freshmen girls.

We had the choice of a couple self-paced classes. You basically took tests at scheduled intervals, and that was it, there was no class. They tended to be lower level, but if all you need is hours, that could be an option.

Another option would be a 3 hour class that only meets once a week. Film classes and evening classes typically have this format.

Otherwise, it's really going to be professor dependent. Ask your adviser, or ask around.

I'm looking for a real gem, basically. My IPHY classes have been both difficult and interesting. Stoked to take biomechanics and exercise phys in the fall. Equally, if not more, stoked to ski 5+ days a week in the spring.

How much writing do you have to do for film, phish? Communications, Z? And bagtagley, what is this "self-paced" stuff? What department did you take it through?

Intro to Business (BCOR) sounds promising if I can get into it and if they don't take attendance...

    Spanish?! I'm already pretty fluent...

Independent study and on-line sound like decent options, too...

Just another note, any phys ed classes you can take? I was an outdoor education guy, so they were required for me. Beginning skiing (I instructed) Ice climbing (I instructed) Advanced Rock (Instructed) If you can find a bunch of classes like that, at least up here, they are only a weekend kind of thing, and if you already have the skills, the profs might be willing to help out some with some bonus material. Just a thought. I know CU is wayyyy different from NWC.

Thanks for the input. Glad to see that you are still alive, too! Haven't heard from you in an age...

I should have clarified. I didn't go to CU, so I don't know that they offer self-paced classes. Just thought I'd mention it as a possibility.

General Psychology was the easiest class I took at CU. I went in the beginning becuase it was interesting, but then not so much. If you read the chapters you could ace the test easy, but if you were taking it P/F it would have been even more cake. I also heard the history of colorado class was pretty easy.

Have you already taken math mods? If not, and they still offer them like they used to, these are incredibly easy. You can take the same test 5 times and by the 3rd time you start to see some of the same questions (each test has 5 questions)

BCOR 1000 was also easy...we learned Microsoft Office and HTML in an online class.

Max, you probably already know this, but make sure you have enough upper division classes to graduate. I know more than one person who missed that crucial detail....

Anyways, I second phys ed classes, or anything at night. Can't you add a worthless and easy class in the fall so you can at least attend sporadically and then have one less thing to worry about during ski season?
