    Converting RAW to JPG

made the mistake of trying out the RAW setting on my D40X. Pic's turned out fine but I can't get off of the camera/memory card.

Any freebie programs out there? Tried googling it but no dice, either wanted me to pay or seemed pretty sketch??

Adobe Ligthroom PC or Mac or Aperature, if you have a Mac. But if you have a Mac then the latest versions of iPhoto will convert as well.

Unless you bought your camera from a guy in an alley it should have come with software that will let you process the RAW photos.

Check the CD that came with your Nikon.

Nikon View NX is free and does a great job. I love Nikon Capture NX, I use it for everything. It's not free, has a kind of weird interface, but the raw conversions are awesome. The color control points are much easier for doing local adjustments without using layer masks too.

Thanks. Any advantage's with shooting in RAW? I have been pretty happy so far with my skiing shots, just messing around.

Ton's to learn with one of these.

With RAW you can change alot more stuff, like settings you would have been able to take when the picture was taken, such as Exposure, with this you can make HDR images and edit in 32bpc which means you can make whiter whites than you can see with your eye, but allow you to make lens blurs look more real and also do plenty of other things, some I don't understand.
