So, what is your vested interest in the locals?

So what is your vested interest in being a jerk about this? Besides the fact that you're a civil engineer and like to think about building big things in places you don't have to live with the long-term consequences.

Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it incredibly amusing that you're trying to pull rank on Dantheman.

Finally, there's a pretty direct correlation here between people who work in mining/civil engineering and people who are supporting this project. Surprise!

I'm not trying to stir up animosity. I'm simply asking what the relationship is between the interested party...

I don't think this is out of line. Just trying to see where this person is coming from.

Our vested interest is in preserving the environment and natural resources. Our mission is to support local communities around the world in their efforts to protect their own natural resources, their environment, protect their livlihoods and to involve them in the decision making process.

Global Response empowers people of all ages, cultures, and nationalities to protect the environment by creating partnerships for effective citizen action.

In the global economy, many multinational corporations set up operations where they are least accountable for environmental damages and human rights abuses. Local communities, especially the most politically disenfranchised and vulnerable populations are faced with imminent ecological disasters. Lacking political power and financial resources, often experiencing life-threatening repression, still these communities organize in courageous and creative ways against overwhelming odds to prevent destruction of their environment and traditional sustainable ways of life. Yet their voices may never be heard in the board rooms and offices where decisions are made.

That’s why these embattled communities ask Global Response for help. At their request, Global Response launches strategic campaigns that bring worldwide pressure to bear on the decision makers. For each campaign, Global Response creates a powerful coalition of citizen groups that support the demands of the local communities. Campaigns seek lasting and comprehensive improvements in the environmental policies and practices of corporations, governments and multinational development banks.
