Comcast or Qwest? or even Directv?

I'm moving soon and I obviously need TV and internet. I want HD and a DVR and the fastest internet connection possible. I figure there must be a lot of experience here, so what do you guys think? What's the most reliable way to do this? I was thinking Directv with comcast broadband... but does anyone know how Qwest is?

btw, this is for Boulder, CO

I use Comcast in MD for internet/tv. We have DVR/HD and it's great. I'd recommend them.

I've got Comcast for both and have been satisified. My bill is $135/month, inlcudes internet, HD, DVR, extended prefered cable package (basicially everything except the pay channels)

Verizon FiOS, if available. Otherwise go with DirecTV and DSL/Phone bundle through DirecTV. Their HD programming is by far the best and has the most choices, and they get great DSL rates through their TelCo partnerships.

Not sure if it's still going, but Comcast was running a promotion on the 3-pack (phone, cable and internet) for $75 for the first year. If not, it's typically $99, promotional. Comcast service has been good here. It's getting harder and harder to get them to deal, though. They don't respond to the cancellation threats like they used to.

We just moved from Comcast to DirectTV to do the package deal through Qwest. We cut our cable bill by 50% alone and got some kind of discount on our phone and DSL. I used to hate Qwest but their CS seems to have gotten much better.

as a qwest employee, I suggest Qwest, since I need the job security. Through Qwest you can get DSL & DirecTV all on one bill. If you decide to go this way, drop me a PM as I can $$ for referrals.
    ....and michigan still sucks

Also, watch out for Comcast Digital Voice (VOIP). A friend of mine switched and has had nothing but problems. Plus, when your internet is down, so is your phone. Not worth the $3/mo savings.

If Qwest offered a DSL/DirecTV bundle without local phone I would probably switch over. But they don't, so I won't.

I've been on their VoIP for 3 months and have only had it go down once for a few minutes. uTorrent kills the internet connection from time to time, but it has no effect on the VoIP.

You can get cheaper cable options than I selected. That price would be the highest you should expect for all the HD channels and all the extended basic & basic plus channels (but no premium channels - HBO, etc) That price includes 1 HD/DVR. (I have 2 TV, only one is HD)

I compared the cost to DISH / Direct and to get the comparable channels & multiple TV's the cost was even more. (some channels were not an option at the time, like VS (ie OLN)). Plus the internet cost is discounted a bit ($5) if you bundle both.

Comcast is the fucking devil. But unless you need a phone line, they really are the only option. I don't need (nor do I want to pay for) a phone line, I just want TV and net, which means Comcast (unless someone here can give me better info).

    ATT U-Verse or Verizon FIOS.

and to my knowledge you can now get DSL divorced from local phone, I know you can w/ SBC, not sure about Qwest

Well, FiOS is out of the question and so is qwest since they don't even offer it. And it looks like comcast is the cheapest way to go and the only way to get a fast connection. Fuck I hate Comcast, they always win.

Qwest has been alright for me. Only one outage in over a year, and it's quick enough for posting here.

Yeah, you can get Qwest DSL w/o a local phone.

How much faster is Comcast vs. Qwest? We have the Qwest 7 mb/sec plan and it's pretty damn fast.

A fair percentage of every buck you spend with Quest goes to keeping that criminal bastard Joe Nacchio out of prison. I'd look beyond the service and see where your money really goes.

FWIW this is what I would consider the best:

    DirecTV for tv...best HD programming
    Comcast for interwebs...cable > *
phone is up for grabs...voip, cell only...it's a tiny bill either way really.

    Funny...
As you can see, download bandwidth is consistantly greater using Comcast, whereas upload bandwidth is consistantly greater using Qwest DSL. Since I host my own website (this website), upload bandwidth is important to me. The smaller the upload bandwidth, the longer you, the user, has to wait for files to download to your computer. However since the difference in upload bandwidth is marginal across the two services, I pretty much go with the cheapest provider. As of this writing, Comcast has the best deal.
