how tight?

kind of a stupid question I guess...when making adjustments on the various things on my bike, how tight do I tighten the bolts?

I just threw on a pair of bar ends and I had to move the brakes and shifters in and I wasn't too sure how tight to make the bolts when I went to retighten them. I'm worried that if I don't tighten it enough it will come loose at the wrong time, and if I tighten it too much I could wind up damaging something. Is there a certain tightness I should be aiming for or is it just a general thing?

Tighten them until you think they are tight enough. If they come loose, retighten them, only this time a little tighter.

For all those things you are screwing the bolts into aluminum, and with those small threads, they strip fairly easily. Its better to have to retighten than strip the threads out.
