Traveling for Skiing -Gear Carry-on Bag Recommendation

Since moving to the DC area from the norther ice coast I have to travel more and more by plane to get to any real skiing. I have a solly boot bag similar to this one:

The problem is that it's a heavy bag and too big for carry-on. So as stop-gap solution i've been cramming all my essentials into a TNF bag like this one with my ski boots strapped to the outside for all plane trips:

which is cumbersome to say the least. If it won't fit in smaller overhead compartments I have to unstrap the boots to get it to fit under the seat which sometimes it won't anyway because of my helmet. Searching here has lead me to this dakine, but it seems like overkill for most trips espeically just the weekender here and there. Any other recommendations for boot bags that are great for airline travel besides a Transpack?

I was going to say check out the Burton gear. Similar to Dakine, but I believe they have a rolling bag that's down a size from the Dakine. I've been able to carry on this bag

with no probs. Of course it's going to depend on if your boots will fit in it.

Hey thanks for the suggestion, looks like a solid choice - BestofShow has the dakine boot locker and fits his gear well & fits neatly in the overhead compartment too...

The only thing I don't like about the Dakine product is the lack of wheels. When you're toting a ton of shit from drop-off to the ticket counter the wheels are a nice touch. Both companies make good product though, haven't been disappointed with the bags from Dakine or Burton.

DC area sucks for skiing... Moved there from 2001-2006 for school, and currently only go back during the summer. Whistler's way better

Helmet + some gear, boots go on the outside because they are dirty and nasty

wheels on luggage = heavy and wtf are you carrying that much shit anyway?

Pssst, sphinx15, I don't think "Ask TGR" means what you think it means.
"fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ

"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy
