Someone hit this for me (M. Bells)

Saw this on the cover of the Aspen Paper today - wish I could be there...

What's the stats on those puppies?? hike in distance/vert wise? vert of ski shot? slope angle? to elevs?

I used to love going to the lake in the fall when all the tourons were gone and you could drive all the way to the lake amidst aspens so gold I swear they lit up the night like street lights on the drive out. Cool crisp scent in the air, the warmth of the fall sun on your face, etc, etc, etc.

    To beautiful for words.

That's one thing we don't get here in Utah; them quaint little mountain towns and their groovy vibe.

I fuckin' love this one. Having climbed the peaks a number of times, I wonder what the pucker factor is when you go directissimo.

X-box - Iskibc probably has better beta but my rough guess on stats is: roughly 2800 - 2900 of sustained 45 degree, starting at about 13,700 feet. Personally, the coulies that have always had more allure to me are the two puppies located lookers left of the bell cord - they look steeper. I am gonna tag that bitch some day.

3,600 feet of vert from the summit of S. Maroon down the Bell Cord Couloir. You can ski from the summit in the winter, but during the spring the starting point is around 13,850'. Anyone up for a Memorial Day weekend descent?

The South Face Couloir is another pucker factor type of ski. Little less vert, but tighter and little more puckerish than the Bell Cord. I believe it is the chute looker's left of the Bell Cord.

    Not quite that much.
The real stuff is on the North, the back side of the South, and across the valley.

If you mean the East Face of Pyramid, then yeah, that is the shit. The N. Face of N. Maroon is a bit of a junk show since it's mostly a routefinder's special, and the S. side of S. Maroon is south facing. Those chutes off the left shoulder of S. Maroon are the shit.

Speaking of spraying, I guess that you're going to take Iskibc up on his offer and ski it with him since you're such an extremo hardcore dude, huh?

First time I was ever out West we hiked Maroon Bells in August. Not sure where exactly. Ended up on some pass looking down onto a lake.

Coming from Florida, only mountains I'd seen were in Boone, NC, I was freaking blown away.

Good luck to everyone getting out there Memorial Day weekend.

We skied those chutes off of that south shoulder off South Maroon a couple of years ago, and it was to date the best ski that I've done in CO. I don't know but the Bell Cord looked pretty sketchy to ski, it was way melt channeled with a mini half pipe that was about 6 feet wide.

edit, iskibc, the south face chute for Maroon is not the same as those chutes lookers left, those are referred to as the east couloirs in the Dawson's guide. The south face chute drops down into Fravert Basin, not visibile in those pictures.

Found this pic, it's the obvious line right from the summit. Freaking insane by any standards.

Yeah, that chute looks like fun
Sean Crossen skied that couloir with Wendy Fischer and her husband several years back. It was a second descent of that couloir, and from what he said about it, the thing is nuts.

I like the east couloirs, especially the one far looker's left.

From the posts above, I guess you really don't know those mountains very well.

As far as skiing with iskibc, I'm not really into going with people who say they're going to ski those types of lines on a specific day. That's pretty dumb and arrogant.

Yeah, that's just what I was thinking. Glad you said it first. I mean, Karl, you definitely don't know ANYTHING about the Aspen area, huh? I mean, it's not like you've ever spent any time there, right? I mean, I'm sure you don't have any number of close friends that still live there, do you? Actually, come to think of it, don't you live in St. Louis? So what do you really know about skiing at all? Go jump off an arch or something.

As for planning routes for certain days...I think I'm going to go stroll up and do the Crooked on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Anybody want to join me? I'll be doing it no matter what the weather is like, how the conditions are when I get there, how I'm feeling that morning, or any other number of factors that I could take into account when it comes time to make an attempt but that I'll assume for now are going to be fine so that I can spread a little excitement for a fun summer decent and plan my trip with some other equally interested people.

Yossarian <-- biting, at least for a moment. Gotta go do some work now for oh, say 12 hours, then I might be back later.

By the way, in case it wasn't clear, that was me poking fun at you Snow County. The thing is, I haven't been around much lately, but I have to say that the two things that I've heard you say in the past months have been a little bit "holier-than-thou" in tone, and relating to Colorado locales. Once with respect to the front range, and once in the Aspen area. Suprising, since I think you said you had only been in the Front Range area for a year?

I'm not looking for a response, a debate, or really even a discussion (just FYI, I'm gonna be gone for a while, so I may not read your response if you bother to write one. I know that's sort of a cop-out, but it's true, so I thought'd I'd let you know), I just want you to think about what you've contributed to the discussion board lately.

Posted any titties descents? Got big plans for a trip coming up? Get fucking drunk and pass out in a stranger's lawn? Got some hot pictures of Carmen Electra? I'll take any of those things, but honestly, the hatin' sort of sucks. It's hard enough to get through the summer without epic pow days.

How about we try some positivity instead of bringing each other down? I mean, where's the love, man?

    Let's all just hold hands.

    Group hug, maybe??

I love you man, I really do.

No no, I love you, man.

That's good shit, mang. Yossarian - always keepng this place true!

IRLTS - that's a great picture - I don't know much about that side. I agree with Iski, that far looker's left coulie has had me mesmerized for years - so cool that you've skied it.

And Snow Country - well...I am sorry that all of us have no clue about skiing. I am just a JONG from Missouri, after all. How about you post something of merit instead of malice? Oh, wait, you're just a dumb troll alias - such creativity.

    Hey Yos -
    Back the fuck off.
Some jackass gets on here and posts "that he's going to rip the shit" out of something, so I call 'em on it.

Then Karl labels me "extremo" when he doesn't even fukkin know which way the Bells face. I don't care how long he lived in Aspen, he doesn't know shit about skiing in that area.

    Yea, I'm the hater.

And you say I should post some TR's etc.? Why, because that way I would earn the respect of a bunch of internet hacks? What- the-fuck-ever. That's not what its about. I don't care if you guys don't like someone calling you on your shit. Get over it.
