Been there. Still feelin' the pain two and a half years on. Hope you had insurance. If you don't I recommend jumping in your car with a baseball and hunting down the ugly motherfucker that stole it (assuming it happened just now...)

I had a large/xl Gary Fisher Sugar 2+. Recently upgraded with XT Crank and brand new tires. So fucking bummed right now. I think I slept only 3-4 hours.

Damn man. I know exactly how you feel. I had my then 3 month old biked stolen out of my apartment like 3 years ago. Still pisses me off. I take it you didn't have insurance? I'll look around and see if I can find a good deal on a decent XL bike.

that sucks, when i was in college I left a newly laced front wheel at the trail head....I was so pissed at myself. karma was on my side at the time and I somehow got it back.

Homeowners insurance should cover it. If it does, you'll probably get the full value of the bike new, plus the cost of the upgrades.

I've liked my cannondale Jeckell for 5 years now.
Still works great.
new ones are 5+ inches travel and you can get the lefty (it rocks) or other 2 blade forks

Arty, if you ride like you ski, I'd find somthing in the 5 inch range, at least. And that's cool about the insurance. They should cover the replacement, meaning what it would cost to buy that bike new today (I think).

Some other bikes to consider (if you don't mind spending a bit more) are the Turner 5-spot, the Cove G-spot, Giant AC-1, and as you mentioned the Kona Coiler, SC Heckler.

I'd say this is your opportunity to go all out. Turner 5 Spot would be my recommendation...keeping in mind that I regularly have wet dreams about Turner bikes...is that weird?

Light, climbs well and has 5.75" travel. I just saw the gold frame the other day and it's sweet. Wish they had them available when I bought mine.

Sorry to hear about your bike mang. I, as well as pHunk had our rides stolen. As for my experience, it turned out for the better, although, I was without a bike for a month. My parrent´s homeowner insurance policy covered my loss. I actually got full reimbursement for the retail cost of my bike. All I had to do was submit the police report, and a signed copy of the retail cost of my frame and components from a local bikeshop, and within a month they cut me a check for the value of the bike. Hope you can have the same luck as I did. I believe pHunk´s experience was similar to mine.

I had the same experience with a set of wheels that were stolen from me. I left them at a parking lot and didn't realize it until the following day. They were covered under the homeowners policy, and I got retail value despite the fact that they came with the bike(Sugar 2 actually). I ended up getting $400 for a set of wheels that weren't worth half that.

Make sure you report it stolen to the police, and call all the local bike shops and let them know a description/serial #.

Also tell the bike shops to look out for someone bringing in your make of wheel with a broken rear spoke, or for them buying a single black spoke in the appropriate length.

To make this easier, I'd write a short description and send it/drop it off with all the shops.

Make sure to check Ebay over the next few weeks to see if anything turns up. That can easily happen.

I just read a thread over on MTBR of a guy that had his Titus stolen only to cross paths with a guy that "stuposidly" bought a $5K titus switchblade for $100 on the trail. You can read the whole story over here

Definitely let bike shops know. One of the guys we ride with had an AC2 stolen a couple years ago and the idiot who stole it brought it in to the shop where it was originally purchased for repairs. They recognized the mods they had done to the bike, called the guy it was stolen from and then the police.
