I did beacon practice last weekend with my Tracker DTS. I love that thing. It's wicked easy to use. But! I had to be within about 50 feet to get a good read, so I'm running across the parking lot trying to get the search started... Is that right? My batteries are only at 70%. Could that be the reason?

50 feet sounds a bit on the small side. Joshbu has a Tracker and may tell what his range is. The Barryvox's manual says the search width is 40 meters and I'd expect the Tracker to be comparable.
