Question on UT tax BS - can anyone help me out?

So I moved out of UT in July. I'm trying to figure out what I should be doing with my income tax return for the state of UT. It seems like the state wants to tax the income my wife made after we left, and that seems like horseshit. I'd rather just file and pay tax on the income we earned while there. Given that we'll never be moving back as permanent residents, why should I have to pay taxes on income earned as resident of another state?

Any insight on what I should do here?

Shoot the hostage/hookers/blow/poopenhausen are all unacceptable answers.

If the rate in UT is lower, you should see if she can pay in UT and get a credit against the income tax payable in the other state.

I think that's a thing you can do.

Well, here in NH the rate is 0%. But if I lived in a state with income tax, I'd find your suggestion fiscally and intellectually stimulating. Thank you.

Unless you expect to get a return, I wouldn't even file.

Thanks Woods. Thats exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

Are you gonna be in Boston for opening day when the Sox are in Japan, or for the home opener?? Give me some dates, I think coming down there is a great idea.

I don't have classes that day (5 day weekends this coming term), so that sounds good to me.

No worries. Your idea was something I hadn't thought of and it was a strong point. Thankfully the hospital is on the east side of the river - makes our tax life alot easier.
