Unhappy i broke my hand again <- positive vibes needed

I couldn't sleep last night -- dissapointnement, anger, depression, and self pity. I even feel ashamed of myself for getting hurt. for those who don't know I did a nasty number on my hand and wrist in sept dirt jumping. I dislocated a small bone and broke another in half. I had reconstructive surgery on it and a few pins and a screw put in my wrist which I was still in the process of rehabilitating. but mostly I have been finally feeling great. I was able to ski safely this winter and was feeling totally confident on the bike again. I was just starting to look forward to another season of progressing on the bike. Mostly I have been killing it on two wheels (gratuitous dirt jump shots ) -->

...but on Saturday I just got a little offline. My wheel hooked in a hole and I high sided hard. Knocked the wind out of me good and punched my hand into the ground. I knew it was bad news when I saw the swelling. I broke the two bones that are right below the lowest knuckle of the pointer and ring fingers. (commonly called a boxers fracture). Now I am back to a cast and praying my specialist doesn't feel surgery is necessary. I am trying to remain optimistic, but I m feeling pretty bummed about the whole thing.

Damn, that sucks. Don't let it get to you though. Most of us have been through some sort of injury that keeps us away from what we love - and when you have nothing to do but sit and think about it, it's easy to get pretty negative. Try and stay positive, train and rehab what you can and stay busy. Hopefully it won't be too serious and will heal up fast!

definitely sending positive vibes your way. That completely sucks, definitely don't be hard on yourself - you were just doing what you love and what comes naturally.

    heal up!

Damn hev, bum deal. Positive vibes sent and hopefully no more surgery is needed and healing comes quickly.

As an aside, I ate it hard dirt jumping this weekend as well, knocking the wind out of myself and basically getting badly bruised and cut up. It's a dangerous game.

Just think of all the cool pics you can take of your buddies now.

I've been really impressed with the pictures you've posted. Definitely looks like progression to me. You'll heal and be back on it in no time.

    Good luck

Bummer, man. I was hoping to hook up on the jumps with you this summer if/when I ever get to Denver.

Though I'm sure you could still school me one-handed .

Heal up quick, man. You'll be back out there in no time.

    Good luck,

thanks for the positive words. It's refreshing to hear people encouraging me to get back on it rather than question the activity. unfortunately some of my family, and co-workers don't really get it. I am getting a lot of sneers and rolling eyes around the office. I think a lot of people don't even realize I find their judgement offensive, but ulimately it's my respect they loose. again, thanks for the praise and encouragement.

hopefully this just a bump in the road. you'll be seeing that heel-clicker soon enough phUnk !

I got that with my first knee surgery. My parents actually told me they were relieved because "I wouldn't be doing any of that crazy skiing stuff ever again." Right. They don't get it at all. At least with the second surgery they knew better. But I still got crap from people at work. They injure themselves playing basketball, tennis, doing yard work... just as serious injuries but because they think they're doing "normal" activities, I'm the crazy one. Don't let it bother you.

Yup. Sick of hearing that crap myself.

Hev - you have my pathy. My sym-pathy. And my em-pathy. And any other you can think of . . . . but most of all, you have positive vibes coming your way.

    Keep doing what you love.

At my last job, most of my coworkers knew I skied most every weekend. I used to have this fat, lazy, POS coworker who always told me "Be careful, don't hurt yourself" before every single weekend. She would have freaked if she saw me actually ski.

But I don't ski or ride for the adrenaline thrill of it. I enjoy skiing difficult terrain because it's challenging. Just like I enjoy work that is challenging (which my last job wasn't). Sure that means there's a chance of injury, but that's not my purpose...cheating death. I merely enjoy challenging myself to accomplish new things or doing old things better. Injury is merely a potential consequence of that with skiing/riding. Nothing more/nothing less.

So don't worry about it and forget all the nay sayers. They're just too comfortable living mundane, predictable lives. Heal up well, mang!

    Hev

Just made a weird connection. A buddy of mine has been sending me pics of DJs near his house and I noticed they were stamped w/ leelikesbikes.com as well.

Anyway I was talking to him today and he said he knew who you were and was there during the fall. His name is Alex...rides a Dare and just got a Specialist. Small world, eh?

    Unhappy

Sorry about the hand. Ask the Doc to cast your hand to fit your bike grip.

I know that hands heal slowly. My wife broke her wrist, 4 wheeling at the dunes. She had to have a cast on for 12 weeks. But it healed perfect.

    Best of luck.

That sucks man. Is it the same hand and bones as last time?

However, those pics are freaking sick. Frame those babies and hang them on the wall.

    you'll be flyin again soon

What's up man, that party was pretty killer lastnight. Some good networking. I see that no footer is sick. My boy, bagtagley was telling me about it, so I was looking for that picture, thinking it might be on lee's site but apparently that came from someone else. Well rest up and don't goof off too much, cause we want to see you tearing up the park again soon. See ya at the jumps. If not have to hook up, cause apparently we have some very similiar hobbies.

    Later,
