Anyone with any recent experiences or knowledge of the area specifically regarding the reservation cleanliness and crime? My wife and mother-in-law are considering a GC backpacking trip in March with a couple of days in Havasupai.

Backpacker Magazine had an article this last summer/fall about a female hiker who was murdered on the res. that went on to talk about the "lawlessness" alcoholism, trash, danger to hikers, etc. Was the article just being alarmist or is it is it going to be sketchy for them to be down there?
