    CowboyUp????

    What exactly does it mean? Who started it? The same guy who shaves the heads?

    BOSTON - Pedro Martinez and Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox were fined Sunday along with Don Zimmer and Karim Garcia of the New York Yankees for their actions in Game 3 of the AL championship series.

    Bob Watson, baseball's vice president in charge on discipline, did not announce specifically why the four were being fined, other than to say it was for their behavior in the fourth inning of Saturday's game. The amounts of the fines were not disclosed.

    'I'm very disappointed in the behavior of some of the participants in last night's game between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees," commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement.

    Conigliaro did a few flips in his grave last night.

    i think trot said it a while back in a postgame interview. "as a team we need to cowboy up and win some games" or something. it means to "step up" to a situation. its roots are in "you need to cowboy up to the bar etc." kinda like "sack up"....like "i need to sack up and hit that gapper tomorrow..."

    kinda wierd that massholes are shaving their heads and wearing cowboy hats to the games...not a pretty sight i'm sure. we really really need to win tonight.

    Brutha, baseball ain't life. There was plenty of blame to go around last night, and maybe -just maybe- the Sox screwed up worse than the Yanks. But both sides screwed up.

    Benny, I've always thought of you as a compatriot, as a friend, even, although we've never met. I've always felt we're more or less on the same page.

    So I say this with all due respect: Do not drag Tony Conigliaro into your petty Red-Sox-hating agenda. Do not do it. Don't do it. Don't ever do it, just don't fucking do it.

    Or I will be really pissed.

    Is that clear?

    Jeez! Sounds like you're already really pissed. Sorry to light some sort of fire, but I have been avoiding the real petty stuff, like so and so SUCKS.

    I think Bringing Tony C into the argument is quite appropriate, because, as you know, his career and life was destroyed by a bean ball, as Zim's almost was. Pedro showed a total lack of class with the finger to the head, and should apologize. Yeah, fat chance.

    Oh, and I don't hate the Red Sox. I kinda like them, although certain players have lost a lot of my respect lately, especially Manny Dumb Ass. They are a damn good baseball team that seems to be emotionally out of control right now, which is the manager's problem. Or fault. If they beat the Yankees, they should order the rings, because the Cubs or Marlins have no chance.

    That was aimed at Posada. Granted, it was still a lousy thing to do, but it wasn't directed at Zim.

    If the players can put the whole incident behind them and play another 5 innings, why can't y'all?

    Get the fuck over it.

    I understand what you're saying, Benny, and I don't disagree with you.

    Despite the fact that your point is illustrative and that you make some sense, I would counsel you to not bring Tony C.
    up again, you have no idea how much that hurts.

    The second that ball hit him is as bright in my mind's eye as anything that happened today. I'll never get over it.

    Pedro didn't hit anyone, neither did Roger. Let's move on.

    Benny, I can totally see what you're saying, but let it go. People from Boston of the "Ice" age have a tremendous attachment to that Sox team and Tony C in particular.

    I will as a Sox fan admit that Manny and Pedro both acted like dumbasses. Let's move on and LET'S GO SOX!

    May be a little late, but ESPNC has had quite a pregame afternoon with features on Fisk, Mantle, Yaz (Don't call me Yaz), and more to come, including Berra.

    I really, really wish I had a ticket to Fenway tonight.

    Annnnnnnd that's a W for the Old Towners.

    Sorry I couldn't make it tonight, but Saturday's game was one for the ages...We were all in the stands going "what the fuck was that?" Without the benefit of instant replay, a lot of wild speculation goes on...And then base went and fucked some skank. Yes, it was good times had by all, despite the L.

    By the way, New Yorkers...The Giants fucking eat dick too.

    Me thinks it is an old-timey phrase, used well before hippies even existed in the modern era.
    cool things is that a local WY company trademarked it about a decade ago. The daughter of the company owner plays on my ladies high school volleyball team and they are all of the sudden HUGE Sox fans. Actually lots of people out here are now Sox fans because of this. All sorts of liscensing deals with MLB going on for em.
    SO ill jump on the bandwagon and GO SOX!

    I don't know about that. The Cubs have been pitching pretty well against the marlins and except for the last game their bat's have been doing their job. Personally I don't have a real affinity for any of the teams left, but I am rooting for a Cubs - Red Sox World Series.

    "COWBOY UP"

    I think about this term, and what it's all about?
    Well it's reaching deep inside when your wife has turned you out.
    It's gettin' bucked off every bull that you've seen;
    Going hungry, and telling yourself "I'm not starvin', just lean".

    "COWBOY UP"

    It's watching your friends go to the county fair;
    And staying behind, cuz the fence is in need of repair.
    It's knowing what's wrong, and doing what's right;
    Though it means you're going home alone tonite.

    "COWBOY UP"

    It's what makes a cowboy tell it straight;
    It's being in pain, and calling your gate.
    It's having nothing, yet having it all;
    It's brushing off the dust and knowing how to fall.

    "COWBOY UP"

    It's a spirit tried and true;
    Like a guardian angel, it'll see you through.
    So when you're down and things look rough;
    Look deep within yourself, and

    "COWBOY UP"...
    (unknown)

    I'm hoping for a cubs-red sox series and that Pete Martinez has to bat against Farnsworth after Pete has thrown at some Cubs

    I worked with this kid last year who has a ranch in Idaho and that's all he would ever say. Cowboy up. If you were about to go big and hesitated too much - cowboy up and hit it. If you just shotgunned a beer and were about to puke - cowboy up and hold it in.
