Exclamation Take a look at my Yahoo account ! !

This is a screen shot of my actual Yahoo account at this moment. Look at the Bulk account. I can't keep up anymore! I used to complain when I got 300-400 spams a day. Now I'm getting over 1,000 PER DAY! This is just two days worth. I thought there were new anti-spam laws that went into effect this year to reduce it.
Is anyone else getting more than ever??!!!

That's funny -- my Yahoo account gets zero spam.

    Yep, zero.

My university account on the other hand gets ~300/day.

Since I started *religiously* marking all the spam, my yahoo account has gone from about 500 +/- a day to around 5. It really does work.

    BWAAHAAHAA!

3400 Bulk messages?!? Maybe you should stay off those porn sites.

Seriously I thought mine was bad because I'm getting 30-50 per day which is the worst I've ever gotten before. Except for that last virus that stole addy's out of everyone's address book.
I should probably change my username to IReallyDon'tTeleMuchAnymoreDave.

I have the same darn problem, Endless. Not 1000 spams...but more like 10 per day. I say you email the yahoo administrator or something - that's completely ridiculous!!!

You may already know this, but you also need to scan through all of those - my Yahoo sends actual messages to Bulk that should be going to my Inbox. I get about 300 bulk a day, and have to scan through before I delete. It's a royal pain, but I'd be screwed if I didn't (since my Yahoo is the email for my entire business).

endless, you have to go in and mark everything as spam. then go to your preferences and tell it to block everything you mark as spam. did mine a few weeks ago and haven't received one thing.

You know what really sucks!? This is WITH filters on and everything. I marked all my spam (like EP was talking about) until I maxed-out a long time ago at 250, I have all 50 word-block filters active and everything (that's why you don't see any really bad words in the subject lines).
What the crap do I do now?

    WSD-
Exactly! That's what is so bad about this. Sometimes real emails get mistakenly directed to Bulk so I STILL have to go through all the thousands of emails in Bulk to make sure I'm not throwing something important away! Even then, people tell me once-in-while that they sent me an email several weeks ago that I never answered.
Yeah, if I could just hit the "empty" button and trust that it was all junk I wouldn't complain.

You must be really hung...I didn't see one piece of mail advertizing those amazing little pills that make your penis grow....

I would if I could. I have email from more than 60 domains dumping into this Yahoo account. I couldn't even tell you how many actual email addresses. I consolidate them all here because their filtering system seems to be the best. You should have seen the spam I was getting back when I was checking all of those email accounts separately.
But now, with more than 1000 a day, the spam level is probably back up to where it was before I started funneling all my mail through Yahoo.

Somebody (truth? where the heck is that guy, anyway) posted here a while back about a new "intelligent" spam filter system that learns what you consider spam from what you mark as spam. Sounds like you're a prime candiddate for this system. Apparently it's pricey and a bit of a pain to implement, but very effective.

edit: actually it's free, I just read.

Two cheers for tuffy. It's something I think you'll have to do. Time to cut the cord.

(And keep in mind that an inactive Yahoo will eventually be deleted after a few months. [6 perhaps?])

Yup, get multiple new accounts. Get one that's a spam account, for when you need to use an email address (for signing up for forums or whatever), and don't give that address to anyone you're actually interested in hearing from, that way you can just delete everything in it once a month or so without having to go through the mails. Works like a champ.

Update: I got more than 22,400 in the last 7 days. That's now over 3,000 per day, or a spam every 25 seconds, 24/7 ! !
The junk mail in my account has exploded in the two weeks since I posted this.
I am happy to report however that I have received only 20 junk mails in the last 2 hours due to some countermeasures I just started--that's instead of 300. Huge difference. I think I could be onto something...

I get zero junk e-mail of yahoo or my home accounts. But then I don't consolidate 60 accounts either. Maybe counselling is in order.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

    Smile

It IS crazy! And that's 60+ .com or .net domains, not even counting the email addresses. Each one of those domains has a few emails accounts attached to it, so we're talking hundreds of addresses dumping into my Yahoo acct. (I sell stuff on the net so I actually use all these accounts).
But like I say, it's looking much better this evening now that I've made some changes.
