Why do my Power Wraps give me shin bang?

I had approx. 100 days on the stock liners in my Lange WC 120s without any shin bang issues. I recently went with some Intuition Power Wraps for better fit, increased warmth and they're lighter. I just can't seem to get these things dialed in. I love the way they fit, but they are hell on my shins!

How I've tried to fix it:

-I took the spoilers off the stock liners and put them on the PW. The PWs seem quite a bit thinner than the stock liners and I've got really low volume calves, so I thought this would help take up some space between the liner and the shell.

-The PWs are stiffer than the old stock liners so I've gone ahead and removed the bolts that go through the upper cuff and into the lower boot at the back of the boot in an effort to soften it a bit.

-I tried two booster straps on each boot. One strap a little higher that just wraps around the liner and keeps my shin snug to the liner and another strap a little lower that wraps the liner and inner booster strap with the shell. I've since gone back to just one booster strap.

    - I put some soft, plush foam - a rectangle about 2" wide, 3" long and 1/4" thick on the top, inside of the tongue to provide some more cushioning

I'm thinking of adding some stiffer foam on the outside of the liner tongue between the liner and the shell.

I think what it comes down to is that I'm just not getting an even, smooth flex out of the PWs. It seems that the way the PWs flex, there is almost a "hinge point" about 2" - 3" down from the top of the cuff. This is where the pain is.

Any advice? I've been taking way too much Ibuprofen.

I'll be back skiing in the sloppy stock liners for the next few days I guess.

I've got the same problem. Skied Lange for years with no problem. Skied the Krypton Pro's for several days with no problem.

Picked up a pair of Intuitions. Overall fit seems great, but my shins were killing me after the first day. I'm sitting here with ice on them right now.

I had the same problem with one Powerwrap. Took it to the ski tech and he said there was a bit of a hard spot in the liner right on my shin. He ground off a tiny amount. You might be able to do this yourself--but go easy, not too much.
I also shaved the hair off the sore area and buckled down tighter.
    Problem gone.

edit: oh yeah, I used foam for a day or two until the sore shin recovered. But you have to cut a "donut hole" around the sore spot or else the foam doesn't help.

I had some shinbang problems with intuitions but then again I had the same problem with the stock liners in those boots too. So I guess I'm no help.

I got some new boots and put booster straps on them, not a single case of shinbang since then (knocking on wood) you might want to try that.

it may have to do with the way the overlapping seam sits over your shins. the overlapping front of the liners can put pressure on parts of your shin if part of the seam goes anywhere close over/across the shin bone. I hope they come out with a version of the intuition liner with a reg tongue instead of the overlaping thingy they have now. I saw a prototype of a tongue version at their shop.

You might be able to fix by remolding & re-positioning the overlap so that the seam is a little more out of the way prior to tightening the boot. That worked for me. My problem now is that the liner seems to have shrank from all the repeated moldings that it now feels too short & I have toe bang instead!!!! Just cant win!

    That's a great idea:

I went ahead and put some high density foam on the front of the tongue between the liner and the shell. It definitely changed the flex some, so we'll see how it works. Hopefully it provides some better contact between liner and shell.

I'd definitely like to try an Int liner with a traditional tongue. Maybe make it with lower density foam than the rest of the liner for a cushier feel.

That's what I get for not reading the post very carefully.

I have the same issue. I have very skinny legs and can't the wrap tight enough around my shins. Even with booster straps I still get shin bang. The best I have found is normal liners (lange) with the booster strap. I also put foam on the outside of the stock liner to take up more volume.

my friend just picked up a pair of intuitions that are like a traditional liner, so i guess the prototype is now on the market.
