Thats a nice shot of Duxbury beach and the back river, Ice. Makes me want to plan a trip back this summer. A buddy of mine has a cottage out on Saquish. FYI, the best fried clams and lobstah bisque (Haddads) in America come out of that fine little hamlet in the bottom of the photo known as Green Hahbah. The Boston mafia also imports most of their coke and pot through there.

    Cody, Wy,

Awesome place if you get used to <10 inches of mositure a year.

Skiing(red lodge, beartooths, big horns) within an hour
    Climbing(tons) all around
    Boating-20 minute drive
Mtn biking, tons if you know where to go
    Kayaking-10 minute drive
A little ice climbing im told, but i've never gotten into it.

    Buffalo Bill res.

Sport Illustrated did a shoot here (note license plate)
It was called the eighties, Ford was president, Nixon was in the white house, and FDR was running the country into the ground.

My hometown: NYC. Great city, good times. Frustratingly far from skiing and hard to get out of. Here are some of the pluses (in my opinion):
Park Ave with R&T on right.

Enjoy, these are from my apartment window.

Our bridge.... one of five, but the most famous

Russian Hill, my neighborhood, not much skiing. But the boys built a ski jump on Filmore Street for Johnny Mosley's birthday one year.

Over across the Bay is Marin. The dark area is the Headlands, which was a military base until the '70s. Now, it is the land of runners, hikers, and mountain bikers who break the rules by riding there. It's really sad that the mountain (Mt. Tam) upon which the mountain bike was invented now doesn't allow any bikes at all on their trails - dipshits.

I have to agree 100% with MOHSHSIHd.

Not only that, but from the stats I just saw, San Fran isn't even close to NYC for tourism. In fact, it is below pits like LA, Miami, and...Orlando!
Not saying it isn't a nice place - just saying, is all.

Listing the pluses of NYC could take all day.

oh yeah... my bad, I had it confused with Compass Rose. Funny how places within spitting distance of each other bear different names. What was the name of that fried clam shack in Brant Rock that got taken out by the ocean?

    Charleston, West "By God".

I love the place, and would move back in a heartbeat if it weren't surrounded by shady chemical plants. There are plenty of places nearby worth setting up shop, though, and land is dirt-ass cheap.

There's great mtn biking 10 minutes from the folks house and great road biking right out the front door. The river in town provides plenty of entertainment during the hot months. Phenomenal boating opportunities nearby, as well as hiking, camping and climbing. Yeah, the skiing is mediocre at best, but there's plenty to make up for it.

    Nice thread idea

I can't remember seeing this one before.

How many maggots have inversely immigrated? I was born in a ski town, and now live in a not-ski town. Isn't Girlski from Jackson or something?

    hometown:

Ok, that's actually Intervale, NH. I'm from Kearsarge/N. Conway. Although I mostly grew up in central NH...

    Now here:

The skiing is too far away and I probably spent too much money on plane tickets this year. However it's just about paradise for everything else I like to do. Thinking about it actually makes me want it to be summer. I've got a serious case of transplant pride. I love this place.

That was Charlie's. Done in by the no name storm. Charlie's 2 run by the same family is in Pembroke (or was) w/out the view.

Of course no mention of Marsh Vegas is ever complete without a reference to the Ranch House.

BTW -- Iceman is right. Duxbury is a stunningly beautiful place -- home to a tremendous number of inbred blue bloods and nouveau riche poseurs.

LOL! Actually ROFLMAO!!! Look, I get exactly the same response to folks from Paris, London, Moscow... the list is endless. Everyone things that "their" large City is "The City" - Ethnocentrism at its finest! I'm happy to participate.

I never claimed we had MORE TOURISTS - nope, we don't, thank god. What I claimed is that more people WANT to go to San Francisco that any other city in the US, fortunately they don't make it here, things would be even worse than they are.

Population of New York City = 8,143,000
Population of San Francisco = 739,000

    Population Ratio 11:1

Tourists to visit New York City = 43,800,000
Tourists to visit San Francisco = 15,000,000

    Tourist Ratio 2.9:1

While I'll give you that NY has more Tourist, thank god, San Francisco has a massive amount per person who lives here... almost 4 times as many... with more coming every day....

But, I'd like you all to know that it is TERRIBLE being here. It really sucks. Please please PLEASE stay away!

(BTW - what's with the WOMEN in the R&T. I used to work across the street and in my day that NEVER would have happened! What the hell is New York coming to??!?)

I haven't been to the new Charlies, but many fond childhood memories of the old one; that and the Fairview, Arthur & Pats, Green Hahbah lobstah pound... man, what a great spot for seafood!

The last time I was at the Ranch House, I saw that one man band dude (?) and drove out to Saquish completely intoxicated. Good times!
