    whiplash

ok....been about 9 days since my Squaw crash and have been diagnosed with what is essentially a case of whiplash (cervical strains). My doc pretty prescribed "rest and acetaminophen" as needed, but I was kinda hoping that some sort of PT would help.

Has anyone ever gone to PT for whiplash related muscle strains?

Tipping my head straight back still results in pain on both sides of my neck (kind of where my neck meets my shoulders. Tipping head straight down is fine. And rolling my head to the left & right causes muscle pain & pulling in between my shoulder blades kind of. Simply turning my head to the left is fine, but turning to right causes a muscle pain in the middle of my back (again, kind of between the shoudler blades but slightly higher).

This sucks....want to ski. But am worried that any kind of head jarring motion is going to lengthen this healing process and according to the doc it can take some peeps upwards of 6 weeks or longer to get over this depending on severity.

Four years ago I was rearended while I was stopped a light. The guy was going 30 mph and there were no skid marks. After he slammed into me, I hit the guy in front of me. I was diagnosed with whiplash as well. I took off 1.5 months of kayaking and other "impact" sports. But other than doing the stretches and neck exercises that the PT gave me, it was time that healed it.

    Good luck buddy.

That's what I was afraid of

I know I'm lucky that I got out of there with just whiplash though. Thanks freak.

ty some gentle stretching, hot packs, estim and even gentle manual traction would all be good for your neck.

Oh yeah, how did I forget?

I also went to a masseuse (no happy ending, sorry) a handful of times. This makes you feel a lot better and relaxed the muscles. Your insurance should cover it.

When I have some bad huckneck or whiplash I grab the tendon (pretty hard)that goes neck to shoulder and then stretch my neck the other way. Hurts a little bit but seems to really isolate the neck muscles and stretch em out...
    Drive slow, homie.

So the eye is healing up OK?

Chiropractors- People love 'em or hate 'em. Put me in the former.

yeah the eye is healing up well. Nearly all of the black & blueness is gone, but the red is still there in the eyeball itself. Visine just doesn't seem to work on it That's slowly starting to clear up as well though, but it still looks pretty evil. It actually looks much worse than it feels....I mean I didn't even know I had hit my eye until I lifted up goggles about 45 minutes later and my one buddy was like 'holy crap your eye!". There's been no pain or anything else associated with. From your writeup of the CB comp it sounds as if you got it worse than I did (broken orbital?)

Aside from my eye, the pain though has been coming from this whiplash, and the bruised ribs, and the bruised lung.... All getting better though....it's mainly just the whiplash that is nagging at me now and what is holding me back from getting after it again.

^^^ Your eye looks a lot worse than mine, for sure. Glad at least that feels allright and is healing. But yeah, I broke the bone right below the eye that separates the sinuses from the eye, more or less. It really doesn't hurt much and the swelling is down a lot already.

Chiro, massage, and stretching for that whiplash, probably all you can do.

Yo Ty, did you get x-rays?

I'm 2.5 months post severe huckneck (and concussion) and JUST found out I should have had x-rays a long time ago. I might have a slipped disc or something else going on in my C5 (I think) vertebrea. All I'm saying is better safe than sorry....

I took a pretty solid beater a few years back that resulted in "whiplash of my back" as the Dr.'s described it. FWIW, considering mine was back related, I went to the Chiropractor and that helped immensely. I was out about 3 weeks if I remember correctly, but the chiro definitely helped.

I did actually so I'm ok there. Bummer to hear about your slipped disc though...ouch...sounds painful.

definitely consideriding a chiro as well, going to see how massage works out first.

A chiro will do you no good unless they also treat the surrounding muscles as well. So be sure to find one that offers some sort of massage treatment also. The rest are just quacks.

Other than that I have nothing constructive to add...

Late at night all systems go
You have come to see the show
We do our best You're the rest
You make it real you know
There is a feeling deep inside
    That drives you fuckin' mad
    A feeling of a hammerhead
You need it oh so bad

    Adrenaline starts to flow

    Acting like a maniac
    Whiplash

Bang your head against the stage
    Like you never did before
Make it ring Make it bleed
    Make it really sore
    In a frenzied madness
with your leather and your spikes
    Heads are bobbing all around
    It's hot as Hell tonight

    Adrenaline starts to flow
    You're thrashing all around
    Acting like a maniac
    Whiplash

Here on the stage the Marshall noise
    is piercing through your ears
It kicks your ass kick your face
    Exploding feeling nears
Now is the time to let it rip
    To let it fuckin' loose
We are gathered here to maim and kill
Cause this is what we choose

    Adrenaline starts to flow
    You're thrashing all around
    Acting like a maniac
    here we go

    (guitar solo)

    WHIPLASH!!!

    (guitar solo)

The show is through the metal is gone
It is time to hit the road
    Another town Another gig
    Again we will explode
    Hotel rooms and motorways
    Life out here is raw
    But we will never stop
    We will never quit
    cause we are Metallica

    Adrenaline starts to flow
    You're thrashing all around
    Acting like a maniac
    Whiplash
