    Winter Rentals in Summit County?

I've got several friends that are interested in getting a place for next winter in Frisco/Dillon or anywhere that'll allow us to avoid the I-70 melee as much as possible.
What's the best way to find a place that might take 8-12 people as winter seasonal renters in Summit County?
Are there a lot of these types of places available? Looked casually on the internet without much success so far...

Try the Summit Daily - I think they're on line, but the Summit County folks would know better.

lph and I spent two winters in Summit County and lived in Wildernest both times. Again, I'm not a local, but speaking from a seasonal perspective, this worked out really well for us. The trip to/from the Basin, Keystone, Breck was easy. Seemed like tons of places available, as well.

    good luck!

It's probably best to wait until October to find winter rentals. There's tons of them and they're cheap in Summit Co.

The Summit Daily is online: www.summitdaily.com

Hmmmm, the gears started spinning. What if...I got a place and set it up so that folks could stay. Cheap floorspace in Summit County on a casual, ad hoc basis. I could keep it clean and even stock beer and breakfast burrito makings.

Hmmm, could feed the addiction for everyone involved.

cool. I lived in Wildernest for 2 months back in 93 with like 12 people in a 3 bedroom place. I remember I paid $100/month because I slept under the stairwell on a mattress.
I'll look around this summer. thanks!

To no one's surprise, the Tahoe area has this figured out to perfection. The Ski Leases(rentals from beginning of December to the end of April) available are a f'ing steal.

To my knowledge there is nothing like this up here. More specifically, nothing marketed as such. However, if you wanted to extend this, by doing a 1/1 to 5/31 lease it might be feasible. Problem being a 4BR could run as much as 2K/month. My friends that do the ski Lease pay about $900(45 lap dances) for the whole winter in Tahoe. There is just too much tourism in the I-70 corridor to make the ski lease available.

As always, SheRa's getting to the answer.

My friends and I have done it in some capacity for the last 3 seasons. Leases are available in summit co. for Nov-Apr, probably for about $150/mo/person. If you factor in gas and headaches and time driving to and fro, it's more than worth it. Actually, I can't imagine NOT having access to a place to stay up there. It kind of spoils you.

Actually, it has always amazed me more people in Colorado don't do the time share/group ski house. I remember when one of my ski house friends at Killington moved to the Denver Area and was suprised that most people either bought a place as an investment or did the day trip scene. I figured that it was just because people in the east were used to getting summer shares in beach houses that they just did the same thing in the winter time and that real estate prices were such that it didn't make much sense in Colorado.

I found my place last season throug http://www.vrbo.com/. Not for the ramen noodle crowd, but there are some deals in there. As said, it may be a little early, but not at least to start shopping. It's true about Tahoe - much cheaper, and you could probably weasel in on a share, whereas Summit has no share scene to speak of. Yeah, why is that?
The much cheaper passes in the Summit area should be factored into season cost.
