I got my Vans on but they look like sneakers.....

Alpine = Fun
Tele = Fun
Closet tele wanna-tryers, come out and give it a run. You might be surprised.
Tele or Alpine = Well deserved reward of beer at the end of the day
Feed your soul, just ski something
Vinko Bogataj is my HERO
Damn, does anyone have an opinion? I can't tell which way this is leaning. All I wanted to do was go skiing. Guess I'll have to check if either my knee pads or jock strap are sill in the garage.
this thread is summed up in a bumper sticker i saw in CB...where there are a lot of tele skiers. "NOBODY CARES THAT YOU TELE"
Most tele skiers go on about the fact that they tele (and how hard it is) as an excuse for how crap they are.
This can get mistaken for looking down their nose at alpine ('it's sooo easy'), but most of them were once crap alpine skiers who have switched to try something different and have found a sport where the majority of people suck and so they feel better about themselves.
As has already been pointed out, 99% of people on tele can't ski for shit. Most can't link turns or carry any speed let alone keep the upper body quiet.
Gr. (who skis 10 days a year and can at least link some turns, carve and carry some speed although the quiet upper body could use some work)
As someone who has done both Alpine and Tele,
allow me to say, Tele is easier, but it requires strong legs.
People with wimpy weak legs should remain on alpine or knuckle boards,
until fully capable of biking uphill about 10 miles (road).
Ski, bike, climb. Resistance is futile.
Ski, Bike, Climb.
Resistence is futile.
let's get one thing straight here. it's not teleskiing, it's free heel skiing. "tele" is short for telemark, which is just a turn. we don't call alpine skiers, "parallel" skiers.
the end.

One of my neighbors frees his heel. Kinda looks like Corky rapping 'Fight the Power" when he's doing it. It sucks waiting for him.
OTOH, I know a couple of dudes who get a regular 175 days/season on teles. I can't keep up with them on alipine gear and I hear it sucks waiting for me.
I started tele'ing 12 yrs ago I still have the gear and drag it out once or twice a year but since I fell back in love with the alpine turn its pretty much all fixed heel and besides I can go faster for longer the gear doesnt break and besides I reverted to P turns when the going got fast & hard so I wasn't doing many tele turns
A big crew of telemark tipsters came up here to ski and I took them to the hill at the bar they presented me with a "telemark skiing is stupid " sticker which I put on my helmet some tele skiers take offence and that can be a lot of fun
I got the scar from the spiral fracture & the 25 stitches in the lip (which fortunatley were all internal so no scar)to prove I am a telemarker
its like having an STD you can't get rid of ... I will always be a telemarker
I know exactly what you mean.
Johnny's only sin was dispair
If you think about it now days I only do just enough tele to keep getting laid
This video is obviously very old, but I scrolled through all posts in this thread and somehow it has not yet been posted. May as well as this:
That video is old but it will always be funny.
Alpine gear for alpine terrain. Nordic gear for Nordic terrain. Duh.
I like your tele skiing, I do not like your tele skiers.
As a snowboarder... i fucking hate snowboarders in general. -advres
I just ordered some Scarpa TX-pros.
Will this now make me a Trandonee, or Tranny skier?
Can someone lend me a skirt, preferably with some kind of paisley?
First, I am an Alpine Skier.....but from '97 until '05 owned telegear (leather boots with plastic cuffs....never had full plastic). I am fine on tele, can rip a groomer, can technically ski anything, but dont look great off piste.
Despite my addiction to Squaw straightlines and hucking, I recently have a desire to Tele (free heel, whatever). I do alot of cross country now, as I have 2 little kids and I like towing them (it is a fun thing to do without dragging babies to Squaw).
--After doing lots of XC days, I get on Alpine and feel sort of confided.
It has made me think of teleskiing again. Not to rip the palisades, but more because it feels really mobile. I can picture teleing more as I teach kids to ski, as I can skate, hike etc to pull them around. Teleing is more of a true transportation tool.
