Can Muslims own footballs?
Can you make a shoe smell?
Jesus of Nazareth was a carpenter. If he were framing houses today he'd have a nail gun fo' sho'.
I realize that this discussion is about Christianity, however, its hard to point out Christianity alone when when Christians were killed and persecuted by other religions that preach peace in a similar way. War is a part of most of the major religions' history.
If I'm not mistaken this passage ends in the phrase that everything is possible through God.
I don't own a gun, but my initial answer would be it's fine for the same reason it's fine to own a playstation. the few times in my life i've used a gun, it was basically a means to enjoyment - a toy - as in, going to a shooting range and seeing how well you do, is fun. same thing would be true with a bow&arrow.
Also could come in handy with that whole protect your family thing. don't compare that to the death penalty, which is a whole other conversation altogether. there's a difference between punitive punishment and self defense.
Huhhh? I'm sure it's quite the opposite. People who don't have much going for them need to believe in something bigger than themselves that gives them hope that the next day will be brighter. Not that money cures all but look at a country like Mexico. It's probably not an exageration to say that more Mexicans are Christians than Americans per capita. Most people aren't rich in Mexico if you haven't noticed.
I learned this from playing Trival Pursuit, footballs though referred to as pig skins, are made from cow hide. Now Hindus perhaps would have a problem with the football, not so much Muslims.

Oh, I'm a Christian and own a lot of guns. Mine mostly for filling the freezer, though there are a couple in case someone thinks coming in my house at 3am would be a good idea.

Five minutes into the drive and you're already driving me crazy...
Ahh... The Saiga 12-gauge autoloading shotgun. Galil charging handle and foregrip, SAW pistol grip, SBR'ed to... looks like 10", HK drum sights, Russian 8rd magazine, Tromix folding stock, Tromix flashhider. Best fighting shotgun in the world, bar none.
I have one I converted myself. I'll likely bring it to the TGR shoot this spring. Did you know that they make 10rd magazines for them?
And if you think Christians owning guns is ironic, I'm more of a Buddhist.

The Jesus of the Christian bible had more power than we can imagine but simply chose not to use it. He could have turned wine into AK-47 and nuclear bombs if he wanted to. So your question is really: What need does a GOD, willing to let man torture and kill his mortal form in order to forgive man's misdeeds, have for a mundane weapon of any kind?
PS I think gun ownership is fine and I am not a Christian.

Would Jesus have owned a knife?
He owned a hammer (or whatever carpenters used in that period of time), so maybe all Christians should own hammers.
observations by non-christians about how christians should live can be amusing. I obviously can't speak for all christians but i'm personally not going to try to tell an atheist how to live.
ironic that he owned a hammer, given the method in which he was hung.

Jesus probably carried a hammer because his Hell's Angles buddies told him that the cops don't consider a hammer to be a deadly weapon until you use it as one.

lol. First, let me be clear:
I have guns
I like guns
you too can have guns if you like, I don't care
and yes, I am a christian too.
We live in a complicated world ... example, what of all the "pro-choicers" (of which ironically I am one) who say pro-choice until actual birth, yet bad killers like Peterson was tried for two murders - his wife's and unborn baby, (how's that work), yet these same people may be against the death penalty - complicated world I say. We all try and justify our behavior and opininions I say, rightly so or not! My wife and I do a lot of volunteer work helping older people - always have, oddly enough almost across the board they are all quite religious, and oddly enough statistics show that as we all get older we begin to believe more ... closer to death I suspect. I'm not saying believe or not, it is your life, your choice ... do as you choose, but it is also odd that from almost the beginning man has believed ... it does go back a way, right or wrong, so perhaps be careful prior to condemning those that do, one never is certain, I should think. Lastly, what the f___ is this topic doing on this website anyway? lol
