True indeed....This has been a very frustrating season so far but it's nice to see all you guys getting some great days. This looks like a couple of prime days coming up.

Hope springs eternal, and my hope is that by spring I'll be up on the hill.
To top it all off, I'm gonna decide in the next day or two about a (pretty cool) job that could end up consuming my life for a while.

I'll be thinking of the Mammoth crew on Saturday....With everyone in spirit.

Well, I've skied damn near 'bell to bell' the last three days with tomorrow looking like a bluebird powder day. It started snowing about noon on Saturday and looks now like it's letting up. As far as skiing the last several days, much fun was had by many. Props to Gebster for skiing despite sounding pretty sick.

I'll be curious to see what rips and what doesn't. The upper mountain had many, many fractures. Basically, everything released. That includes a post-control release on the Drop Outs the gobbled up about three people. No injuries or full burials.

    Tomorrow should be fun.

    Dear goodness was it fun.

Saturday was characterized by an epic clusterfuck due to the aforementioned post-control slide in the Drop Outs -- after waiting in line for the top to open, we were pulled from one of the first gondola cars and told to go ski elsewhere, nothing to see here.

Sunday 22 opened around noon and was slayed proper. Must have done 10 laps right until the closing bell. Ran into Twins, Big Tim, and Gebster somewhere between visits to the white room. Fun times with a fun crew of Mach Looney and non-mags Bunk and V who should really start posting here. Props to Mach Looney for late-night driving and Bunk for skiing hard today despite wrecking his shoulder on a tree on Saturday. It was tough to leave given what promises to be an epic day tomorrow, but time to check back into reality.

I am glad I made it up my road and into my driveway last night. Lots of snow to negotiate. Oh, the 16 inches that Mammoth is reporting in the last 24 hours is inaccurate.

Blue skies. I think some lines will come to life that we didn't see last year.

Nice Tarkman! So how much would you say Mammoth accumulated since Thursday? 60"+?

Anyone have any idea how much fell between Bishop and Mammoth? In the mountains, not on 395. Like Aspendel, Rock Creek, etc. Hoping for a copious Spring down in those parts.

22 did not suck! Lapped the Viva area for most of the day and the snow was great. I sound even worse today in regards to lost voice, but it was so worth it. Props to BigKuba for showing me late in the afternoon a great bowl stash that he was lapping. Took a few end of day laps down Avy 3.5 to the top of chair 16 from the traverse and got some great stashes that were still untouched.

Gotta say that Dav-O did a great job of throwing a curveball into his memorial service by collaborating with Ullr to dump all that snow. But then a great storm session weekend on 22 sure was a great way to remember our friend that is watching all of us from above.

All in all, Sunday was the best day of the last four at Mammoth. The wind showed up last night, followed by the fair weather skiers today. Still, it was plenty of fun.

Things are filling in fine. The Bear has plenty of good airs. Kiwi? I took the side entrance. Getting in there felt good because I hadn't skied that all last year and maybe not even during my injury season the year previous. The main entrance looked fine, but I wasn't sure if dropping into there (an eight footer into a sidehill pocket at about 45 degrees) would involve schralping rocks. Soul Rebel was sure that someone would hit Cowboys. Werners looked good. I don't know if anyone hit either throughout the day. Huevos had another big crown right near the cliff band on the entrance. Boo hoo.

Here's some of the rips we saw today.

Drop Outs - all of 'em

Seriously, those crowns were big. I'd say as big as 6-8 feet.

The Tail had the goods as did Hemlock. They got more traffic than normal today probably due to the big portions of the upper mountain having slid.

I was on the Bear on Sunday (when everyone else was on 22) and was plunging my pole past the grip. There's 48" right there. The upper mountain probably got 6-8 feet. It looked to me like I could see the pre-storm bumps on Climax after the gun-triggered slides this morning. Measure the crowns on Climax and there's your answer on upper mountain new.

No love for Sunday? Even though the weather was bad, and most lifts were closed, we still managed to find freshies all day. 22 opening was titties, and we lapped fresh shots until the legs wouldn't hold up any longer. I sure wish I could have been there on Monday.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...
