What would you do ? - Warranty Rant related scenario

this place has always set me straight with ethical dilemas. So again I ask ...

As some might remember I had quite a bad mishap in the B.C.

As an direct result I lost the use of my abs, my ski pants and my long underwear.

The abs are doing much better and I'm sure they will be fine if stay off them for while ( abs are so important... ). Physio is going well and looks promising well I donno I can really see that far but I dream of skiing this summer.

I got an old pair of long jons that I can use but not the same as my patagonia ( oh so sweet, wish I could have em back ) I'll settle and I can manage.

Losing my pants sucks more. My precious pants, they wont regenearate themselves and I am broke. The cute ambulance attendant cut them straight off, amist my complaints...

Do you think I can ask the company to help me out ? I'd love to get the same exact pair. Best I've ever had but they ain't cheap ( Arcteryx theta sk). No store has em in stock anymore. I take the XL long, Hard to come by...
I know these pants are a luxury and I know how much I had to work for them the first time. Maybe the company can have some empathy ?

Write a nice letter explaining and asking for help (not begging for new pair, will settle for used or warranty or defect or suggestion) ... done that : no response.

Send the letter again with the pants all cut up and bloody : done that : no response yet.
Any other suggestions ? Should I just suck it up and go in my rain pants.

Touring in k-way pants is ok but for extended tour, even in Chile it sucks.

    Thanks,

    Phil

I would call them (which I do alot), act cool, and ask for maybe a deal on a new pair. They probably won't completely cover them. They could have close outs from the 03 season sitting around.

A European wouldn't dream of trying to warranty a pair of strides damaged in an accident.

Are they in stock anywhere? If the company has access to them, they must be available for sale somewhere.

most retailers (on line and local ones) should be selling the pants off at 40% off at this time of year.
Better off to make some phone calls and try to find the pants and save and just buy them.

I bet I can score a good deal on those pants here in Portland. Want me to look? Maybe you can cut a deal whereby you get the company to reimburse you for half of the cost?

The way I look at it, it can't hurt to ask. As suggested, call them or write them a nice letter explaining the situation.

You might get lucky and get a pair they have hanging around that someone in the company had used or you may get a brand new pair.

    Yup those. Best ever.

    Thanks y'all.

I buy most of my stuff proform and even that in this case is too much.... I know that is asking a lot but I have to try. If I don't watch it I won't have cash to get to SA. Plane ticket is an unavoidable expense. I even pulled in a favor with my buddy that works for an airline. I gotta ski this summer.

I called the company but it was buzy, I'll try later ( don't wanna leave the weird long message)

I'll check online see if I can figure something out. I've never seen arcteryx on sale though.

    Thanks again

Sorry dude, I'm gonna step up here and be a bitch:

    (achem)

Go spend some time online, look for a deal on those pants, and buy them. Arc'teryx are pricey, but there are other quality brands out there. Some of which might be on sale.

I've not been the best lurker, so I don't recall the story of your accident, but it sounds like it sucked. I'm sorry for you, but I don't think you deserve free or reduced-price pants.

Calling them up and asking if they've got any "slightly soiled" models, or refunds, or whatever is fine - but giving them a guilt trip about your hardship is just really manipulative and nasty. You're putting them in an uncomfortable position where they have to tell you that they don't care about your accident and they won't give you a discount. Basically, you're making them feel like shit, so they'll feel sorry for you, so they'll give you a deal. It might work, but it's not very nice.

Send them back and ask for a repair and explain the situation. A friend took a nasty tumble last spring and shredded his ArcTrex pants--they looked like he fell off a motorcycle shredded--and they fixed them. Sure it wasn't free, but it was WAY less than new pants.

Those are some nice pants. Just high enough to protect the beer belly. Some company out of ?Ontario? used to sell them cheap..Had to send them back once though for the the talls and the talls shipped from BC. just a lot of searching on the net for the right price.

I agree with Greydon... They can replace panels, aren't they taped, not stiched? May be easier than you'd think.

Will, gotta be a bitch... What the hell is the harm in asking? Not like he's calling them saying 'these farking shitty pants ripped'. If he asks and they give him a discount or new pants what the hell is the harm - it's their choice. Where did he say he was going to try some guilt trip bs?

    He did ask though, twice.

    He wrote.

He wrote again, and sent them in.

And now he's going to call? Sorry man, he asked nicely (as you suggest), and he got shot down.

    Will man,

I haven't got shut down, just no answer. Fuck if I was them I wouldn't answer to an e-mail ranting about gimme shit cause I'm pretty. They might not have gotten it yet, who knows, just didn't get an answer. I definitly won't be giving no one a guilt trip about any hardship especially my own. Thanks for pointing that out. I don't wanna anyone to think I'm playing the victim here. I'm definitly not a victim. I'll find a way to ski regardless, this is just option one. Standing on my two hind legs is something I like to think I can be proud of.

    Greydon ,

I like the repair Idea. I'm gonna run with that or the dirty gear in the not wanted pile. I figured they were beyong help. I'm quite stoked on this working ! I love this place, you get it all and in the end it works out. Sustainable solution for all, if they fix em, everybody wins. That is how it should be !

Phunk about the bloody pants. I'm not 100% sure how my friend sent them in for me. I donno if she washed them or not. So I can't verify. Would be nasty though, held my intestines for a few hours. Shit I hope she washed em or they'll just throw them out come to think of it.

Again maggots, I'm in your debt for the far reaching and varied knowledge that is found here is a priceless commodity.

Any maggot down in SA that want's to tour some I'll take ya to some shizzling goods, just cause your maggots. Let me know anytime. I might even be able to set up lodging but that is to be confirmed.

Having used the search function and gone back to read your accident report I really don't think you need to worry about that. You're a hardcore motherfucker, that's for damn sure.

If i were their marketing department, i would give you a pair of pants so i could have exclusive rights to the story. Think of the ads:

arc'teryx. Keeps the water out, and your intestines in.

That was a nasty accident man, i'm glad you came out alive and still stoked on skiing. Companies like that are usually started by outdoorsy people that understand... they aren't all about money. They will most likely work with you. Good luck.
