OK. I tried to create a custom map in Google Maps. Forgive me, this is the first time I've tried this. I think I labeled the location of Fort FKNA properly, but someone please correct me if I screwed up. Its been a while since I was last there, and its a bit tough to tell with the level of detail on Gmaps images.

Tried embedding the image, but I haven't figured that one out yet. In the meantime,

The map looks good. I didn't drive out the scenic loop on Tuesday, but there was still a lot of snow on the ground in the area, so the fort may be snowed it like it was last year. There are plenty of other places to camp off the scenic loop if the fort is still under snow.

Thanks sandygal. I'll need Bodhi to direct me, but yes.

And I've been working on the tags on the above referenced map. I'd appreciate if someone could take a look at it and let me know if you can see the tags I've dropped. They include the lodge at mammoth where we poached showers and hot tubs last time. Also, I started adding the locations of some of the natural Hot Springs. I'm not the most qualified for that, since I haven't visited any of them. I've just been looking around on the web and at books to determine locations and descriptions. Let me know if you have trouble seeing any of that, and if I've screwed up. The Google map should only be discoverable by linking off of this thread - I did not make it searchable in google.

Map looks good. Hot Creek is closed due to increased thermal activity, at least the last I heard. I do not believed it has reopened. There is no camping around Hot Creek, but you can camp just about anywhere else. Most of it is BLM or FS land. You need a campfire permit to have open fires.

You can also get to Ft. FKNA or Mammoth by turning on the scenic road about fives before town, for those coming from Reno for the first time.

    That's what 4x4 is for!

I plowed that shizzle last year (took me 30+minutes, but I plowed it).

    McPoser!

Since we didn't get to ride in Summit (though I may swing out for A-Basin closing), you NEED to come to Mammoth. Then you can show me where Ft. FKNA really is...

Dookey, you were just in Summit county and you missed the chance to snag the Bros for their trip to the Mammoth Mini?

    ^Dammit!

I seriously dropped the ball on that.

I coulda ridden 'em all the way across Colo, Utah, Nevada, and Cali and passed 'em around Tahoe with the likes of Arty, Corky, and a few others.

I humbly apologize for the snafu on my part (i was in Summit for 2 weeks and didn't take my computer as i wanted to go old school "off-the-grid").

Thanks, Sinecure! Unfortunately, I can't spare any days off of work. Thus, I could only do Sat and Sun, which makes things a bit tricky. Anyhow, I really appreciate your kind offer.

McPoser, I'll either be driving through Reno on my way down if I drive, or renting a car if I fly in.

How about anyone coming from Sacramento/Bay Area? I thought I had a ride with a non-maggot, but I think I misplaced his phone number. (That's a cue for Mark the Lurker to give me a call...)

I'm getting in Friday(9th) just before noon, skiing through the weekend then flying home.

I think you're on the right track. Make sure and take the Bros with you!
They deserve a proper road trip to Mammoth for their photo op.

Check out the Broadventure thread. I cleared things up there. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm driving from the Bay Area. Leaving sometime on Thursday. Either driving to Tahoe and spending the night, or driving right through if I can get going early enough to get to Fort FKNA in daylight. Dookey can't get his thumb out of his ass and decide what his plan is. So I don't know yet whether I have a rider or not. I can take at least one passenger, and probably two. So it will be some combination of Dookey, Uber and/or Poser. Let me know.
