I think it was Trey Parker who best nailed the Lost creators. In South Park, one of the boys sees another group of kids outside and asks what they are doing and I think its Craig who says they are playing "Lost". He says it's easy; you "just wander around in the jungle and make it up as you go along."

I never watched one minute of Lost, but does anybody remember Twin Peaks ? After the first season it was like Lynch was making it up as he went along as well as trying to out weird himself. What a disappointment that was. Every time I happen upon a cool show like BB I always worry it's gonna end up like Twin Peaks.

I don't think I've ever seen a show hold together so well through a number of seasons as BB did. That was remarkable. Twin Peaks is a perfect example of something that started out great and ended up shit. Weeds went into the shitter, and Homeland and Boardwalk Empire seem to be headed south.

I guess the Simpsons still has its moments, but I don't watch it much any more.

The Sopranos is still the benchmark.

And now it's time for the Walking Dead.

Twin Peak was great. Unfortunately the network made Lynch solve the crime too soon, and then the show just tanked from there. A lot of the final episodes were shown as a marathon on some random evening due to desert storm new coverage bumping TV shows all around, from what I've read.

But watching season 1 through the midpoint of season 2 I think it's an upper echelon all time show. BB/Lost level for me.

    Could have been the benchmark....

Sopranos fell off, particularly in Season 5, and the non-ending felt hollow.

BB was the whole package. Acting, writing, cinematography. It never really faltered and the ending was great. To me, it's in a league of its own.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Sopranos started at a higher level and was maybe the best single season of original programming on tv when it came out, but it never exceeded that first season and unfortunately only got worse - which was still rarified air in general but underachieving at the end.

BB started out good, got great and ended with two half seasons (16 episodes) that were in their own league. I think the constant upward trajectory sets it apart from most.

Fa! Sacrilege! The Sopranos is the finest TV series ever written and produced.

Why does everyone need an ending? Use your imagination.

I agree with this. I'll say that BB was more of a consistent show, season after season. But I don't think it had the polish, or depth that the Sopranos had. I can still go back and watch old Sopranos episodes & pick up something new every time. I don't get that with BB.
I'd have to put the Wire above BB too.

Yes. I think it's a shitty theory and doesn't make sense compared to the rest of the show.

Any fans of the Shield on here? Loved that show, equally as compelling and good at making you connect with a bad guy.

Symbolic imagery is connotation not denotation. Having gone all in with his Heisenberg persona, Walt is depicted almost like a ghost after Heisenberg symbolically dies in "Granite State" but, no, he's not literally a ghost and he didn't physically die in New Hampshire. I stand with my interpretation; two personas deserved two deaths. First, the imaginary persona, Heisenberg, dies symbolically as Walt's inner rage burns out. Then, we again see what remains of the deeply flawed man that's left behind, the Walt we met in the first season. Having embraced his Heisenberg persona, there's not much left when its gone. Heisenberg, like the cancer, consumed him. Walt was destroyed by his tragic flaw, his hubris. There's just enough Walt left to make it through his final acts. He ditches his watch...his time has run out. First he makes a confession to Skyler. He then dies in what could be seen as an act of contrition (destroying himself along with Uncle Jack's gang). Ultimately, the difference between Walt and Heisenberg is that Heisenberg believed his own lies and kept telling himself he could beat the odds. In the end, Walt accepts his fate. Ergo, Heisenberg dies a slow death in denial in a crapass cabin while Walt moves purposefully towards his own death.

Hubris /ˈhjuːbrɪs/, also hybris, from ancient Greek ὕβρις, means extreme pride or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own competence, accomplishments or capabilities, especially when the person exhibiting it is in a position of power.

Man, I hope you're working at something where you're using your talent. It'd be a shame if you're doing something like bumping chairs or working in a carwash...in Albuquerque.

AKR - go to deckdeep's last post and read the definition of hubris. Then please do everybody who has even the most minuscule contact with you a big favor and kill yourself.

I'm sure back in the day there were attention starved douchebags saying "Shakespeare? What is Macbeth? Theatre?? Thea-fucking-tre? EVERYBODY LOOK HOW COOL I AM!!! Gaaaahh!"

Hopefully they killed themselves as well.

...and I do have one point of contention with neck deep: that cabin in New Hampshire was pretty rad and not crapass at all!

I've started to notice people that rag on TV or without TVs are the new vegans. I've also noticed when you run into one of these TVegans they love to gloat on how they don't watch or own a TV but more often then not you'll get out of them that they watch good shows on an iPad.

AKR go fuck yourself as always. There's good TV and bad TV. A lot is bad but there's also a ton of good. To say all TV is zombie inducing is a fucking retarded statement.

Is this the part where AK Rover tells us about a great new skier like Mark Abma?
