    914 blowout

Had a meltdown with the heelpiece of my 914s yesterday (mounted on Big Daddies). I have hit some big drops and skied some rough stuff with this setup, yesterday I was just carving a hard turn on a groomer at Alpine when my ski fell off my foot.

I am trying to get the shop that did the mount to get them replaced thru Solomon (has been just over a year).

Anyone ever see anything like this? Any advice in case the shop doesn't want to bother? Is it binding or mount that caused it?

Mostly see this on twin tips- the jibrats landing switch over and over bends out the screws and snaps the heel track, but in your case it snapped the heel. Salomon is real good about replacing these, but do yourself a favor and send back the entire pair of bindings, not just the affected areas. They'll most likely just give you a new pair.

Solution? Get STH16's or 916's. metal heel track, steel bracket around the rear heel screws, binding will rip out of your ski before this ever happens again.

BTW- What did you hit? It looks like you took an impact from the side...

Thx...if the shop can't take care of it, I will deal directly with Salomon...hopefully get a new pair, and upgrade to 916s. Didn't realize the difference in the heel track. Really appreciate the insight.

As for what I hit...nothing that caused the blowout, but I hit a lot of stuff throughout a season...so who knows.

Usually the plastic around the heel track gives. You managed to step it up a level and break the heel piece itself. Congratuations.
