    Extreme Hiking

Overheard in Paragon Sports today (Manhattan):

Salesman: Hello, can I help you?

30sh woman: Uh, maybe, I need a pair of sunglasses. I'm going hiking.

    Salesman: Where?

30sh woman: New Hampshire next weekend. (!!!)

Salesman: What kind of hiking, normal or extreme?

30sh woman: Uh, what's the difference, uh, I don't know.

Salesman: Well, let me show you our glasses for the extreme conditions you'll find in New Hampshire.....

I walk away at this point, shaking head.

I couldn't believe when I saw a pair of Pontoons in Paragon over the weekend. That shop is a joke but always packed. REI really needs to open up a shop somewhere in the city.

According to some of my suppliers they are not really as busy as we are at my shop as far as foot traffic goes. Last week one of our major bike suppliers had a marketing guy out doing customer counts at several stores in the city and we won and on Saturday one of our clothing suppliers did something similar and they were blown away by how busy we were compared to the others they visited. Guess that's why our gross has doubled in just under three years . So far this year we are up more than 30% over the same period last year.

    No to REI!

I made a quick visit to see if there were any good deals on clothes, which usually happens right about now as they change seasons. Nope. I guess the 2 Patagucci stores have eliminated Benny late season parka deals there.

There must have been 6 people buying ski boots. wtf?
