    Some Bogie flicks:

    The Big Sleep
    To Have And Have Not
    Casablanca
    The Maltese Falcon

    Or for something completely different:

    Repo Man

If this thread lasts long enough, I would add the Kill Bill's.

    Jeremiah Johnson
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

    for pure campiness and such:

    Logan's Run

The original "48 Hours" was great! Nolte and Murphy were perfect in that.

Caddyshack - one of my faves, and still one of the funniest movies EVER.
    Strange Brew

Any of the Sean Connery Bond Flicks, and "For Your Eyes Only" for the Roger Moore Bonds.

I'll stay away from foreign films. Below are a few that I really liked.

    Lillys of the Field

    Men in War

    Battleground

In The Heat of The Night

The Third Man (Probably the best movie I've seen)

LA Stories (You need to be from here to really get it)

    Time Bandits

The Devil and Miss Jones (No, not the porno, but a 50s-era comedy. Goofy, but very funny)

    The Graduate

The Ox Bow Incident (On par with Twelve Angry Men mentioned earlier)

Could be a very long list but I'll stick to this week:

    The Quiet Man

    Little Big Man

    We're No Angels

BTW - FZ dead on the money about Vanishing Point. The naked hippie chick on the motorcycle made a big impression on the twelve year old obstruction.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

I recently found an old tape of Lone Star under a pile of crap... That, as most of John Sayles, was an all time great movie.
Recently bought a box set of Edwards the Pink Panther. The PP Strikes Again is awesome. Made me laugh to tears as a kid, still delivers.

    (insert french joke...)

And I recently went to see a couple of old chaplins with my son. (The gold rush and Modern Times). Timeless.

Seconded. The Criterion Edition DVD is completely worth it. Other Classics not yet mentioned:

Touch of Evil (My Favorite Film)
    African Queen
Lawrence of Arabia (or any David lean movie)
The Searchers (Best John Wayne film)
    The Manchurian Candidate

So good. The day I saw Ran in film school was the day I realized I'm not that talented. Then I saw Seven Samurai and it was confirmed, so I focused on Cinematography vs. Directing.

I mighta missed it, but no mention of any picture show starrin The Duke. Why, there was a time when that could been considered un-American.

Two that made quite an impression on me when I was a young 'un.

    True Grit
The Cowboys (Bruce Dern will be forever damned for his part in that)

The Quiet Man has been rightfully cited.

And Stagecoach is an all time favorite of mine. But hardly forgotten.

(ie : Un-american, moi ? Take zat back)
