Japan Summit

This is all pretty new to me, but anyone interested in a Japan summit? There must be at least 10 of us on here that have some connection or another in Japan, plus a few more I bet. An early spring back/side/slack country bbq in Hakuba could be good. Perhaps try and get something out near a natural onsen, or plan an easy sidecountry route with a natural onsen on the way home, like near the Happo north face river. I also know some good rolling natural terrain features and half/quarter pipes that are an easy hike and in a good secluded and scenic area for a bbq, with a moderate summit to attempt above the site if you want to earn a beer. I also have a tent basecamp near there and pretty soon an igloo, which I could stock with some goods leading up to the event.

Perhaps pm this to other Japan crew who might not check in here so often.

What does that bbq of yours burn? And what booze do you plan to bring in that camelbak?

Another idea for the Summit would be an overnighter BC trip: Tsugaike - Norikura Dake - north side to Renge Onsen (its open in March!) - sake and onsen and a bed. Skin north side ridge back to tengubara - drop down the Tsugaike NE chutes - traverse to the top of Norikura skijo, shoot the trees. Home.

Now that's a pretty fucking full and fun tour. Might thin the number of participants though.

I though you were talking about an overnight trip in the first place.
The bbq burns charcoal or wood and I think I ll fill the camelbak with Tequila.

Tsonda - would it be easier to carry gas than a honking great sack of coal? It's possible to keep the gas warm and therefore at sufficient pressure.

Why can't I buy schnapps in this damned country?

100 en shops shell boxes of 1 kg of charcoal. The good thing about it is that once you burn it you throw away the ashes and have less weight on your way down. with gas, you still have to carry the tanks on your way back + the gas bbqs are way too heavy.
I think I saw schnapps in Shibuya, I will have to check again.

I see your point. (I would have just left the empty gas with my base camp stash and packed it out in late spring with all my other gear, which will take a few trips anyway).

Loon - word on the schnapps, cheers. FYI, a fair few pensions in town would buy it off you as well, its hard to get. For me, no flavour at all please. I like the plain stuff I used to buy in the service stations in Austria and drink on our overnighters. If any flavour then I go for blueberry, but really really mild.

I think I posted this before: doing schnapps from tea-light candle aluminium cases. You got to multi task everything you take into the mountains. You know, save weight, so you can carry more grog.

LOL, what isnt legal?? ...maybe as long as you dont get caught. Id be down fellas but am prolly out the 22-26 unless we break up our spring training camp dates...am keen on the 1,2 of March being up in Hakuba and hopefully the 15,16 as well. Will try to sneak in mid-week depending on whats going on with club/school/graduation stuff.

I don't think I have ever had plan schnapps. I have had peppermint, mentholmint, cinnamon, and about every fruit flavor known to man but never had plan ol schnapps. Whats it taste like? vodka?

In my ignorant opinion, I think schnapps is fermented and distilled from a fruit base, but it isn't sugared and flavoured as such. Schnapps in countries like the UK, US, Aus etc is thick and sweet and flavoured... it snot the real deal.

Good schnapps just takes like a hot white spirit, but not like vodka.

Butterscotch = legspreader when I was at uni.
