    Which snow shoes???

SO the girlfriend and I have been looking for snow shoes. I missed a pair during the REI sale just the other day.

I am between the MSR Denali Evo, And the Red feather (just the brand)

I am a bigger guy and the girlfriend is about 105 lbs. So i cant just get 2x of the same pair.

The reason for the Msr is because i can add the tail. I weight about 270-300 lbs depending on the season.

The Red feather for one they are local, and I rented a pair from the UW School Gear Rental and they seemed pretty easy and sweet.

What do you recommend. ALSO ---- If you have a old pair that your looking to get rid of Please let me know.

    Thanks -ahrenv

I just picked up a pair of the MSR's and they are really good--super light, easy binding system, seem to be really durable. I got them for the same reason you mentioned, cuz you can add on teh tails. However, I'm only like 160 lbs so not sure how well they'd work for you. For your lady though, I can tell you that my wife likes hers a lot cuz they are so light. Hope this helps, good luck mang.

Get the MSR. I have owned them for 5 years and they are still going strong. I am not easy on gear. They side hill like no other! Binders are easy with gloves on. Like you said, tail add ons. Mine have also taken a 15' cliff drop to stomp. Long story why but the came out unscathed.

Definately the MSR the option of adding a powder tail is the best thing in the world on snowshoes and they sidehill like a beast. No cliff drops on mine but they're pretty sturdy. The only bad thing I've noticed about them is that when it gets really cold the straps lose their elasticity and it's really hard to strap them back on if you take them off. Im talking like -20F and colder. Im 6'2" and 250 and with the 9" tails they float me through just about anything.

I went with the MSR Denali Ascents over the Evo's. They can take both a smaller and a larger tail than the Evo's and the main part looks like it has more area to begin with. The heel rise option is nice when you need it although I'm not sure it's really worth the price you have to pay for it.

Can you wear snow shoes with alpine ski boots, or do you have to change up when you're ready to ski?

MSR snowshoes fit snowboard boots and mountaineering boots easily and I'm sure that, as long as your feet aren't huge, they'll fit alpine boots just fine.

    They have their uses.

Jesus Christ. Just get some Tubbs or MSRs and be done with it.
