    Losin' It!

It's been over a month since the last time I got on a river. I feel that if I don't get back out soon I'm going to lose it. I've tried tying flies, ice fishing, reading reports, cleaning gear/lines, etc......We're in the middle of a arctic freeze so things aren't looking up for me. Anybody have any advice on how to pass just another month without going into complete withdrawl? I live on the shores of Lake Superior for reference.

Oh, I did that already, too. 9'9" GL3. Pretty nice stick. Used it for some indy rig fishing.

Where on Superior? The weather is changing over here in MN. If the winds blows the ice back into the lake you could drive to Duluth and hit some 'Looper action right in town where the Lester River enters Superior. Yeah, their stocked rainbows, but they average 5 pounds and you can keep them for the BBQ with a clean conscience. Just bring an 8wt and pick up some "Looper Bugs" at either Great Lakes Fly Fishing in Duluth or Superior Fly Anglers in WI. It's a lot like fishing crappies, their pretty dumb, but it's a fun morning.

Other than that, you could come to the Twin Cities for the Great Waters Fly Fishing expo. Huge event, spent some time hanging out with Lefty last year. Not sure who's showing up this year but it's always a fun way to kill a day and get rid of the fishing jones for a moment.

I've got the boat. You get the GA$$ and the beer. 75 here today. Not much biting, though.

I'm in central Upper Michigan. Steelies (loopers) are probably my favorite to chase after. I've always been meaning to take a ride up the north shore. I have some inlaws around the Two Harbors area. Do you have dates for the FF Expo in TC? I'd be interested in a road trip if the dates work out.

Ice climbing might be the ticket!! I have a few relatives that climb. Skiing?? Who ever heard of such a silly thing? Actually, we've got a few more trips planned to the Western UP and maybe one up to Luhtsen. That should be enough to pass some time until open water again.

The Great Waters Fly Fishing Expo is Mar 14-16th in Minneapolis.

I just realized I'll be skiing in MT that week so I'll miss it. Huge show for a fly only one in the mid-west. There's also one in Chicago, didn't look at the dates but should be on the website.

Heading to the SW Washington Coast to chase fresh metalheads Feb 20-25th. Wasatch should get absolutely buried that weekend in my absense! Hopfully there will be a river thats not completely mud when I'm there.

In the meantime, wrap a rod.
