    Good on ya AKPM.
Okay, i'll try. I needed a tux because dress code was strictly enforced. Without a tux or a suit, you didn't get in the door. Unless you were a girl. Then, you were allowed to wear a dress. This isn't to say that we weren't allowed to get a little scandalous... they just wanted to see formal attire (even very revealing formal attire was allowed). I arrived in a chauffeur driven limo because I've never been in one, and this will be my last chance for a long time, maybe ever... I also wanted to make it a night to remember for my girlfriend, whom i absolutely adore. The room is because parents generally don't like after parties at their house when they are trying to sleep. Would you like it if there were 30 drunk kids in your basement screaming? Most people I talked to didn't hook up with anyone... the afterparty is not all about sex. Sure, some people had sex, but mostly it was about drinking and stuff.

Oh god. Grad was such a gong show. The dance part was rockin, the after, not so much. Hardly anyone I knew went to grad with a date, unless it was their boyfriend/girlfriend. So that was fun because then it was just a big group of people who’ve known each other since grade school all dolled up, and causing the best kind of trouble… But after grad was bad news. My school was relatively large, but not massive, and was pretty laid-back. So this other school didn’t put together an “after grad” (safe grad, whatever) showed up at ours. And it was a big school with a lot of gangs and racial tensions, whatever. So everyone is driven to some farm field just out of the city to cause mass trouble, get drunk, and no one’s driving. Usually works out. But some fights started with the other school, some dude’s throat was slit, blood everywhere, people screaming, crying, hysterical drunkenss, the people running it left, no way back into the city. We finally caught a cab home at 6 in the morning, and walked in the front door with 15 people as my parents were having breakfast. For weeks after the news had the headline of “grad gone bad”
But the dance was fun, and I looked hot and got to wear stilettos which made me a gazillion feet tall.

Hey, AK, don't sweat it. The expectations kids your age experience due to peer pressure and the material glamor world of the high school prom wither away pretty fast once you're out of there.

If I met any adult who was dwelling on the dissatisfactions of not being the shiz at their high school prom, I'd tell them to get with the moment, not the past. It's one night in a life, and I (and it's just my opinion) think it sets kids up to think that adult life is one big limo ride to the party. Which, for most adults, ends up hardly being the case.

The strong often stand alone, gaining strength and inner fortitude in knowing they don't need approval to be happy.
I'm not trying to dissuade you from going; just trying to say I wouldn't want you to carry any kind of wounded feeling if you don't. Wounds that result in a person carrying their past around in their hip pocket are far more damaging than you could possibly imagine.

Best o' luck whatever you decide to do.......

Hey, AK, I am pretty impressed by your attitude to all this. You are coming off quite cool and mature.

I've also noticed a recurring theme in your posts:

    - skiing fixation (normal here)
    - pussy fixation (as a man aged 15-19 not to have this would be abnormal, actually as is the case for most men)

Without being too patronising (sorry) can I suggest getting yourself over to the Alps for the winter after you graduate. Forget college for a year. Go to a popular British resort (like Verbier, Val d'Isere or Meribel) that also has good skiing. They are not sausage factories and you speak the same language as the people there. Avoid places like Chamonix or La Grave (they are sausage fests).

I did it when I was 18 and you could say it was quite the formative experience. Ski everyday, enjoy the ladies every night. Cheap booze, cougars on holiday wanting fun (= low inhibitions ) and nymphomaniac season workers.

As long as you act nice, don't come off too creepy and your personal hygiene is ok (lots of bums have issues with this which helps the ratios) you cannot fail to get lucky. Very regularly. I am not the looker or the ladies man and even I did. You will not need you LS9000. And you get to ski. Every day. Only problem is, you might never want to leave (is that a bad thing?).

I can't recommend this route highly enough. If it interests you PM and I can try to help you make it happen. It's pretty easy to arrange and you should be able to earn enough to do it between HS and the winter.

Like I said, I don't want to patronise. I just had the time of my life when I did it, I can't recommend it high enough.

as everyone else has said - don't sweat it at all. I ended up going to prom (this was out in seattle) with a group of friends for the most part.. we left early, went to a buddies place on camano and camped on the beach all night. Good times with good friends, not all about sex at all. I'd say, go skiing!

    Mulletizer has the right idea!

Also, if you go away to college things will likely be very different for you. I was quite the wallflower in highschool, and I came out of my shell in a big way when I went to college.

In HS people had grown up with me and had all kinds of preconceptions about me. This made it somewhat difficult to branch out and grow the way I could when I finally left the old home town.

Pretty funny. But you misspelled consciousness. Ruined the whole thing for me.

Likewise. At least soap-on-a-rope was no longer a necessity.

Thanks man, the Haute route and bumming in the Alps is definately on the list of things to do in my life, once I get out of college unless I get offered a heli ski guiding job europe will be my first port of call, I'd go the winter after high school but like you said I'd never want to leave, and thus stay a bum my entire life (wich might not be bad).

the good news in my life is that I have a ton of close friends who happen to be chicks, like more chick friends then guy friends, unfortunately for righ tnow none of them want to be "friends with benifits" but thats ok because someday in the future I know one of them will come around and realize what they are missing, then life will be good, but I'm 16 i want instant gradification damnit!!!

Thanks everyone, you guys helped make prom fun and funny for me.

    Funny Yety Lame Joke:

So I didn't hook up at prom, usually the Bjorn Superprawn is an excelent fly often times the best, but apparently this was a more selective group, next year I think I'll try a royal wulf, because nothing can resist a royal wulf

I hope I haven't already said this if so disregard or laugh at my dumbness

On a side note I had coffee with this chick who is seriously nuts (she was talking to me afterall), but a fun kind of nutty, anyway she was kinda annoyed at the thought of "No Boys" over the summer because she's got a bf in college I then explain its like not having powder then try to describe the feeling of skiing it and almost creamed myself

    Indeed monkey indeed.

Here's some good advice for the ladies:

When they start talking just smile, pretend like you're interested, and say stuff like:

"I couldn't agree more", "you are completely correct", "I was just thinking that the other day", "my thoughts exactly".

All the while you are thinking about that 4000 Vt/ft run that you have always dreamed about. She will think you are a god and you won't have a clue what she is talking about and you will soon find yourself in her bed when her parents are not home. Sniffing the panties and noting a triumphant acheivement for all guys your age. Good Luck.

Way to go AKPM, it definitely takes guts to go stag. You have more self-confidence than any 16 year olds I knew when I was... 16. Including me, probably.

I went to 3 proms. The first one I was a sophomore and went with my senior boyfriend, and it was lame because I didn't really know anyone but him.

The second one, my junior year, I went with a buddy I always went to football games with, and it ended up really uncomfortable because he kept trying to make out with me the entire night and I just thought of him as a friend-- we had absolutely nothing in common besides our love of football.

However, my best girlfriend didn't get asked, so she went stag, and had an amazing time dancing and hanging out with all her friends. After that year, a bunch of my girlfriends and I decided we were all going to go to our senior prom together in a group. There were about 12 of us originally, and a few backed out when they had boyfriends the next year. About 9 of us ended up going in a group... I had a boyfriend at the time but I still wanted to go with the girls, so he asked one of his good friends, and we all just hung out and had a great time. There were also some guys who had decided either to go stag or not to go, so afterwards we all camped by the river and fished, shot fireworks and drank beer all night. It was lots of fun and a great way to end highschool. So you see, dates can have their disadvantage... I've heard about so many highschool proms going wrong because people get jealous.

Good on ya for going it solo, akpm. Next time recruit some drinking buddies for afterwards.
Not on here much anymore. Drop me an email if you want to contact me. Have a wonderful winter!

Never went to any proms. Thought they were lame and overrated. Instead, we would throw a huge rager and drug binger at someone's house or at the local sandpit. More people would show up to these parties than there were at the prom.

What kind of fucked up person spikes the punch with X? I know a couple E-tards, and some of them are so fucked up that they aren't happy anymore. That shit kills your seratonin gland if you take too much (or too often)... kids could have become seriously fucked up. No good.

The punch at my prom must have been spiked with dog shit or something. It was terrible. Oh well, we only paid about a million dollars for it.
