    Canon G9 for skiing action?

Anyone using a G9 as their skiing camera? How is it working out?

Uncle Sam says its time for a new camera. I'm trying to decide if now is the time to upgrade my EOS 10D to the 40D for around $1,200.00 or hold off on the DSLR for another few years and get the G9 with a couple extra lenses for around $800.00. Having a kick ass compact that can shoot 12 MP RAW sounds perfect for extended tours, climbs, backpacking etc.

I'm a jong when it comes to action shooting but 1.5fps would suck. But then again fast action shooting isn't really my thing, so some sacrifice in this area may not be too bad. ( i could still lug around the 10d if I knew it would be that kind of a day....)

maybe i should just buy a lens..

edit: nevermind. Im getting the 40D

Shots come out great, size isn't as big as I thought, full manual, but the non-rapid RAW shooting is probably the biggest negative for myself. Its hard to go back to single shots for skiing when you are used to rapid fire, but thats what the 30D is for right?

Overall, its a nifty little gadget that I enjoy.

    thanks,

after some searching I found you have been using one of these. It looks like a great camera and you have some nice shots. Timing would be tough though with the G9. Im thinking the smartest move would be to upgrade the camera I am likely to use most of the time. Maybe I can buy a G9 next xmas "for the wife"..
