    I looked hard at Vortex as well, but their higher volume models (i.e. above 4000 cu in) lack the ability to hold your gear (like a shovel, shovel handle, etc.). Their hip belt was the most comfy of all, but their back pad just didn't fit my back either.

    In the end, I nixed Vortex cause the pack wouldn't be able to carry what I wanted it to so I could access it easily.

    The Alpine LTW rocks! The only thing is that you need to tape up all that extra webbing it comes with.

    you could cut it off, but then 10 years from that day you cut if off, you'll be like, damn, i wish had all that extra webbing that was on here.

    so... any other suggestions for a good, large one that is designed to carry skis

    or at least can be fitted to do so really well?

    so you're saying you can't get a shovel and handle into the 4000 cu in bag it comes with.

    I wanted quick access to them and Vortex just don't offer that on any of their packs above 4000 cu in
