    Season 03/04 TR +Video (+HQ Version)

Yes plus video .... i finally made it work.

    So here we go.....
As i will try to report the entire season this wont be going into details and ill let the video do the talking. (And as i am not a native speaker of english coming up with witty phrases describing my adventures in the glittering white gold is something im simply not capable of after fighting 6hours against several computers...)

8 days La Grave, one trip :
Well by now you all have heard of this legendary place east of Grenoble and yes everything you heard is true.
The downside of la grave: Everyone skis at least as good as you so it gets tracked out pretty soon(and you cant ski more extreme routes than the others ) and it doesnt get dumped upon that often.
The conditions were not very good and pretty rocky down low.
Which meant skiing the standard routes like the banane, the bowls up high and the wood. The weather wasnt to good either as we only had one blue bird day after a little 20cm dump.
we skied the trees most of the time because the snow was good and you could see where you were going on the flat light days.
My two buddies skied the trifide on the last day(only through a side entrance..) but i missed them so no extremo routes for me.
I had fun in the trees and i WILL go back there when the snowbase is better.
As you can see in the crash section the 20cm dump was quite treacherous because the stones were just about covered but still underneath.

    Krippenstein: 18days , several trips.
Ok first things first: Krippenstein 60km east of Salzburg is a place most of you havent heard of.( so all the pow belongs to me )
Good skiers: only a hand full of locals. Untracked Pow can be found days after the last dump.
weather: only 3-5 Bluebird days and it was dumping most of the time.
Terrain: Open bowls far up, light and thicker trees further down. 1500m vertical

The first 4 day trip lead us there after it had been dumping for 14days and conditions were epic... 60cm of light and fresh pow and a thick base made it a trip worth remembering.(sorry but of course we forgot the cam during that trip )
We came an hour late for the opening on the first blue bird day but scored fresh powder all day long......they had about 90cm down in the valley(at 600m !!!!!) and 250 at the top.

The second one(9 days) we filmed pretty much and it was snowing most of the time. we had deeep days in the trees with no one around. the Big Routes couldn't be skied due to avalanche danger so we stayed on the easy terrain high up when the sun came out.
The third trip(5 days) was without Alja (my girlfriend) so no camera footage from us but we had most remarkable conditions. I skied what had to be 40cm of the lightest snow i ever skied because we constantly skied down on the old hardpack and Markus(the blue/green guy in the la grave part) simply vanished below his hip ..... Still no challenging terrain because the steeper things sluffed themselves out and i usually do not ski steep stuff on hardpack(yeah im a whimp i know..... )

Engelberg last trip 4 days: 2000m vertical of the sickest terrain within 6hours of driving... i hadnt been there before, but i will definitely return !
It dumped 140cm before we arrived and we had 4 perfect blue Bird days. Some hiking beside the standard routes offered as much powder as we wanted. And some nice couloirs waited fo us too. The kicker session behind our hut wasnt too good and we are certainly not new school..... but the locals/pros we filmed did some nice backcountry kicker action.

    Here we go:

    The VIDEO

And here thanks to edg the High quality version(50megs)
    BIG Video

The video is encoded in Xvid (the opensource version of Divx) and you can get the codec here CODEC
It is free, you will get no spyware ad stuff and has the best encoding out there. Download the latest binary release candidate exe and install it (500kb)
the Video is 17megs and no streaming, so youll have to right click and save it.(or wait till it appears in you media player)
    I hope you like it.
And please give feedback since i am a complete editing jong.
I hope to see some of you guys in la grave next year and hope you will be stoked for a few minutes while watching it.

    Lars

P.S. Jamie has huuge balls, but deep inside he loves fluffy little kittens

edit: P.P.S I Hope you understand our jamiesque talk part and sorry about the bad quality sometimes, but i only have 20megs of web space(if anyone wants to host ..i can make bigger versions )
    edit: Video Update

Cool film! Has won the Edg Seal of Approval (been saved for later viewing mid summer). Love the 'Non-Professional Athletes' chick All-round good Euro fun. No complaints about the editing, and the music is pretty damned good to. Great flick!

Nice video, interesting terrain and awesome use of "Boys of Summer" for the sound track! Looks like you got a lot of snow this year on your trips...

    Talking

    shameless self bump !
(damn, i tried to upload a bigger version, but my provider saw through my sneaking attempt ...now i know exactly that i can only upload 20.480kb of data...)

in a bigger version you could see my skis exploding off my feet much better in the crash part.(freud is strong this morning, i initially wrote crash party......)

now wish me luck as im leaving for the university to sign for the pre-diploma test after 4 semesters.(something equal to a bachelor degree. ill do it this summer) and i hope i didnt forget anything needed.

edit:my luck?? i will miserably fail the translation part this summer........

Thumbs up Video editing 10 cents

    Flat light kills.

    Use a tripod.

    Too long.

The music carried it but I would have discarded alot of bogus footage and edited it to fit one song.

You could use a filter to bump up the poor light.

Good TR vid though, thanks for sharing

    Thx bacon.

yeah the tripod issue......we noticed that too. and we'll improve i swear...(last year we couldnt even zoom correctly.... )
The problem: most of the time i am too greedy to spend more time on filming than necessary.....
concerning the flat light: that is the downside of skiing constant dumps. i see that the engelberg footage is better but i didnt want to throw everything else away.
the not always thrilling/bogus footage issue: i could have cut it shorter, but i wanted to give an impression of the whole season (ok the real reason is: it is some sort of a edited home video memory and i need to see ME as much as possible........ hrr hrr )

hmm a filter ..sounds good ? how/which do i use ? while editing ? or do you mean i should change the camera mode while filming ?

    Wink filter fun

Use a editing video filter and drop it on your flat light clip on the timeline. I use levels, and I'd pull the slider on the right back to where your see info on the histogram.

I bet you have a brightness filter. But I'd only use it to salvage "the only footage of you skiing this past season" footage.

Filming on a grey bird day - Sinfull and a waste.
Editing on a sunny day - Sinfull and a shame.

My Minion advice for what it's worth.

http://hosting.the-edg.net/ should allow you to upload up to a 100mb video, and there should be 40GB of transfer available (not much used so far)

Just enter the username as anything you want (I think it works best if you DONT put a space in the name, eg. subtle_plague) then select the file where there is a button saying 'Choose File'. Hit submit and 27mb later, your movie should be up :-) BTW- I've replied to the La Plagne/Les Arcs question you asked, but I think it's slipped onto the 2nd page of the board.

Should work now, have edited some settings. The problem was the upload_max was 500mb, but the memory allocated to each script was 8mb and the amount allowed to be set in by POST was also 8mb. Changed now, should work up to 100mb.
