SUMMIT COUNTY — Summit County Search and Rescue Group is searching this morning for three snowmobilers who went missing on Sunday.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the three went for a day trip on Sunday morning and when they didn’t return on Sunday evening, their friends and family began searching for them.

Search and Rescue was notified by the brother of one of the missing parties on Monday evening, after three friends who were searching for the missing parties became stranded at a cabin in the Elliot Ridge area near Mayhan Lake, north of Silverthorne.

Those men exited the search area at approximately midnight last night. Missing are John McKibben of Kremmling, Greg Morris of Florida, and Murry Melloni of Littleton.

Rescue efforts were unable to begin until this morning due to the weather conditions last night.

Three teams of rescuers on snowmobiles were on their way to the area early Tuesday morning. Weather conditions and avalanche danger in the area remain extreme at this time.

Interesting notes: Three friends thought they would do their own search and get stuck themselves

    Avalanche danger is "Extreme"
...no it is "considerable" above treeline and moderate below.

    Summit, you in on this??
    Hope everyone comes out OK.
Bad day to be stuck outdoors...something about a "wind-chill-fucker"

Who was that masked man? I never had a chance to thank him.
    Good luck, be safe.

    Keep your fingers crossed.

And remember, always call the Sheriff as soon as you think someone is overdue... Its better to standdown a Serach & Rescue Team, then to waste time waiting. You will not be charged for a rescue effort here in Colorado.

Also, if you happen to trigger an avalanche and everyone is safe, call it in to the Sheriff. This way false rapid response team missions won't happen.
