The Legacy of George Bush's Presidency

Got the link below in an e-mail.

Beating a dead horse, but my shock about the people who voted for this fucking idiot not just once, but TWICE will never subside(my dad included-much to my dismay).

You can't pin all of our woes on this administration, but the attitude of the administration goes a long ways in defining our current(and probably future) malaise.

It will take at least a generation to right the wrongs of this administration. IMO the economic wrongs are significant, but the tarnishing of our image/reputation is even more egregious.

Thanks for posting a link to that graph... I was toying with doing that yesterday. (Didn't know if cut and paste would work?) [/courtesy lick]
If some of the best times of my life were skiing the UP in -40 wind chill with nothing but jeans, cotton long johns and a wine flask to keep warm while sleeping in the back of my dad's van... does that make me old school?

I'll never stick up for bush, but what the hell was with the Kerry/Edwards ticket by the Dems in '04? Are you fucking kidding me that these two were the best candidates the democrats had to offer? How could you pick two shitbags so bad that they lost to possibly the worst president in the last 100 years?

    Who cares what I think...
But I think Kerry/Edwards were average or slightly better as far as Prez/VP candidates go... But up against the slime of Rove/Bush with power of presidency, they were out played. It took hiding/delaying crimes of Iraq War to pull it off, but they did just that... Hopefully history won't be so lenient on their asses!!! I hope the clear "stink" of Rove and the the "dirty" Republicans hang in the air long enough for the damage on judgeships and the rest to be undone... Again, but who care what I think...

    My age on 20 Jan 2001 = 29
My age today under George Bush = 36

That's seven years of my life that are just gone. I will never get them back. Fucking George Bush!

    On a more serious note:

    U.S. TRADE DEFICIT13

    $380 Billion

    $759 Billion

Oil imports account for a huge portion of our trade deficit. The price of oil in Jan 2001 was ~$31 a barrel. Today it has roughly tripled in price. When that increase is subtracted from the increase in the trade deficit the increase in the TD becomes much, much smaller.

52.75% of U.S. Liquid Fuel Consumption is Imported

60.38% of U.S. Liquid Fuel Consumption is Imported

If I remember correctly, Bush wanted to drill in ANWAR but the dems blocked it. So, who bears responsibility for us being more dependent on foreign oil?

Savings rate is down. Generally a lower savings rate is a sign of optimism. People feel secure with their financial situation and are more willing to spend rather than save. So that is an indictment of the President how? For that matter, all of the "quality of life" topics should have nothing to do with the office of the President. Do you really want to live in a nanny state where all of your decisions have to conform to some government edict? If you don't want the government controlling your personal choices, then why do the personal choices of individuals reflect on the person occupying the office of the president?

Who exactly is this list targeted at? Do the creators of this list think so little of their target audience as to think they won't know/look into these things? Maybe they are expecting them to be willfully dense?

Opinions of people in other nations: I would expect the people of other nations to disagree with our decisions. They do not hold the same values as us nor do they view the world in the same way as us. If they did there would be dozens of clones of America spread around the world instead of separate distinct nations. Policy decisions should not be approached with a popularity contest mentality.

I have to admit that when I run across a list(or other similar propaganda) like this that seems to show a fault in those whom I disagree with politically, I am less likely to get worked up over it. But that is a shortcoming in me that does not serve me, or the country, well.

As long as people keep pointing to issues like the ones in this list to support their political position(regardless of whether they are dem, rep, or ind) we are doomed to a political environment that more closely resembles an election for high school class president, rather than one more fitting the election of(by most accounts) the most powerful man on earth.

Its' a sad state of affairs we find ourselves in.
it's all young and fun and skiing and then one day you login and it's relationship advice, gomer glacier tours and geezers.

7 years of your life gone, that you won't get back? What, were you his personal man-servant or something? Get sent to Gitmo?

Guess what, America has endured lackluster presidents before, and it'll happen again many more times. Don't be such a drama whore.

Wow, that chart is amazing. I think the other countries views of the US is the most eye opening of them all. I wonder what a Bush supporter would say about that chart?

i am very concerned about indonesias view of the us

i am afraid they may not accept our aid, and that fewer muslims may immigrate to the us.
do any of you have enough brains to look at who writes these charts and polls? do any of those numbers look totally impossible to you, or do you just enjoy hating bush?

The irony of a post in which a poster who cites a Moore propaganda film decries others as being ignorant.

Hey, IMHO Moore is no better or worse than Fox News... He's just on the other side. (Well to be fair to MM, at least he doesn't claim to be fair and balanced)

Yes he does. He claims to be a documentarian and has accepted awards meant for documentarians.

Huh... you must not have even bothered to go read the chart there? 2001 Indonesia View of US 75% Favorable, now is 30% Favorable... How many of the Presidents before GWB were Islamic and wore head scarves to get that 75% number?????
