    Tahoe Specials

So I'm heading out to Tahoe 1st week in Feb. skiing the 4th - 7th, staying in South Lake Tahoe and I have a couple of questions.

    1. Are there any local places that sell discounted lift tickets?

    2. Right now I think we are planning to ski Squaw, Heavenly and Kirkwood, but need another suggestion.

    3. What are the cool places at night just to hang out get a beer and bite to eat?

As always thanks for the info.

I am curious where this is going and I am sure it is not good, but we are staying in the Holiday Inn Express there and FYI I am more or less just going along for the ride on this trip. However, I was hoping to add some input when we get there.

Someone, not me, is going to suggest the SEARCH function.

south lake is usually the best option when balancing out good turns, apres ski and nightlife. a lot of people disagree with me, but I think heavenly is an ok place.

    1. http://www.snowbomb.com/ has some deals available to everyone. For around $25 you can buy a Tahoe Card which gets you better discounts. You can buy multiple tickets per day so it might work out if you're buying for your whole group even with only 3 days worth of tickets.

    Hey Mang!

    1) Yeh, ^^ Snowbomb.com might work.
You might get more luck with one of the "local" Craigslist's. Either SF Bay Area, or Reno Tahoe, or Sacramento...
    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/s...LIFT%20TICKETS
    http://reno.craigslist.org/search/ss...LIFT%20TICKETS
...or just hang around in the Parking Lot, and wait to be propositioned
That worked for me a couple of times at Squaw (I usually travel up on the BayAreaSkiBus, though, so don't often need a lift-tick)

    Now, for
2), I would go for the other S Lake resort, Sierra-at-Tahoe.
But it doesn't get much love around here
You have to love the tree-skiing! Conifers everywhere
Not much for steeps. But there are places that are steep enough...
    There are BC gates, too.
It's a lot more "mom&pop" than Heavenly or Squaw, or even Kirkwood, these days...
If you do wanna try out Sierra, then pm me quick. I have some 50% off vouchers for Sierra (or Northstar).

We plan to be up skiing on Weds the 6th, but at Sugarbowl, so unfortunately you won't get a chance to see Cinders in those Arc bibs

Can't help you with the night-life stuff...
    Have a great time!

    Search, JONG.

But in a nutshell, when you stay in SLT, you cannot depend on being able to ski Squaw. (As a correllary, if you are able to ski Squaw, it will likely suck, because there will not have been recent snow.) The only theoretically practicable way to do it is to ride the Tahoe Queen, a boat from SLT to Squaw; $109 r/t including lift ticket.

How much snow would take to prevent us from being able to get over to Squaw?

you can always get there, it just takes a while. instead of heading up the west shore on highway 89, you have to head around the east and north shores of the lake. on dry roads it takes about an hour on 89. it can take 2 hours easily going the long way on snowy roads. the crux is highway 89 at emerald bay. it's one of the first things to close during a storm.
