reading SD card from casio digicam?

i've owned plenty of digicams & just use the camera when formatting the mem cards. with any of my newer laptops running XP pro, you can just insert the SD card and the computer recognizes the .jpg files no problem.

okay fine. fast-forward to my GF's new casio exilim v8 camera. laptop does not recognize that particular casio-formatted SD card. of course, she can still upload the photos fine by using a usb cable connection, but she'd rather just stick in the card directly into the laptop and not have to dig out the cable each time.

any ideas on what's going on here?

A few things to try- first if you use the camera with the USB cable- right mouse click and go to properties tos ee what it states for the drive type and format. Should be standard FAT drive. Second thing is what happens if you take the card over to the other camera (the one that formatted the first card that works fine in the card reader)- is it recognized and read there? Also try and swap the 2 cards between the cameras and see if they both read. There is SD cards and SDHC- SD high capacity that the card reader may not handle. Then there are also miniSD, microSD and those are obvious as they are smaller than standard SD series cards out there. Check that it is not a new SDHC card and the reader you are using handling only SD first generation cards only.

I just got the same camera a couple days ago and am having the same issue, when I insert the card into the card reader on my printer it doesn't recognize it. I haven't had a chance to really play with this yet, but you're not alone.
