    Cool Tremblant-insider video ski test.

Well I've been working on something since last fall and it's look likes it's going to go through.

We've all been frustrated with the way mags have done ski testing. Not all people are ex olympians or level IV ski instructors. So I got the first approvel to do it here. All most all of the ski company's as well. I'm working on doing a test at Whistler now to coinside with Tremblants, to handle the bigger mtn skis. All this information will only be available online at my website and the mtn's envolved.

I will have ski testers of all ages, shape, sex, and level of ability. How many times has a 40 yr old male that is 6' and weighs 200lbs been able to look at a mag ski test review and find a ski that fits him, or a 5'4" 30 yr old woman. My way they will.

I will be contacting a few of the right coast maggots soon to see if they want to do it.

    Here is the format:

Each skier will do 2 runs for each ski, while wearing a helmet cam. This will give the viewer a same time view of how each skier is, well skiing the ski based on ability and what body/sex/age catagory they fit into. Then at the end of those two runs each skier will give a 1minute live video review of the ski they were just on. This way they can give live-time feed back opinion of what the ski they were just testing. There will be 2 ski shops here that will have access to this form of testing online for their customers to checkout before buying. I feel this will greatly help with sales. The online menu will be a section for each ski where you can pull information from the type of skier you fit into, and see what that person thought of the ski.

So that is the plan. From the survey I did a month ago I got a 100% positive feedback from the 80 people I questioned. I will be calling a few maggots to help out if interested. The plan is for each testor to leave with the ski of their choice and with other swag I can comg up with.

Skis that will be on the test.

    All mtn midfat 72-85mm waist
All Mtn Twintip (parc testing as well)
    Big mtn twintip(Whistler Hopefully)
    Big Mtn Fat (Whistler hopefully)
    All mtn Carve
All mtn female specific (sadly only carve and midfat)

Splat and ONS. If PMGear and TetonGravity is interested in being part of this let me know. Later

This is phUnk logged on as Poyboy and I'd be especially interested in representing the 26 year old male that is 4'2" tall and weighs 135 lbs (in internet weight).

Ya I figured you,SCS, DrNo, Phantom. Would want to do it. And most importantly fit some of the skier types for the test.

Hey Cantdog I figured you in as well. Shoot me an email.

Oh and Phunk. Stop posting pics of your girlfriend. She's just nasty.

I like the comic relief you guys are giving me with the C4 and Jergens Spec-ops ideas from my military days.

Here are a few things I need to mention about the test.

    1. I am not recieving any money for this test. In fact alot is coming out of my own pocket. But taking a bite in my wallet for a sport that has given me so much. Well you really can't bitch too much about it.

    2. The test skis left over will be sold on ebay with the procedes going to the Disabled United States/Canadian Alpine ski teams for the next Olympics.

    4. I currently have 4 ski clothing manufacturers that want to do help with this. I'm just waiting to see what Jacket and pants they are offering.

    5. I have a helmet company already donating helmets for this test.

    6. as of now Condo's to house the testers, and lift tickets will be donated.

Maggots I've put alot of time into this over the last 8 months. This is something that is good for skiing. There is no "under the table" money/stupidity running this test. It is all for the good of skiing, and to get out honest information in a clearer format to help the ski buying consumer. This is uncharted waters in skiing. I will bust my ass on this and give 125% honest/useful info to the skiing public on this venture. You have my word on this.

    TJ,
Your idea is a good one. Its seems that the reviewers in Ski and Skiing tend to have their favorite brands. However, I thinks its important that the ski testers are be experts and very experienced. Having random people testing skis in an uncontrolled environment may yield uneven or inaccurate results.

No, it seems that it we'd be getting a "realistic" opinion of skis based on somebody that's got a similar build & skiing ability.

Personally, I put more stock in a Maggot opinion than I do in either *SKI* or Skiing's* version of an "expert".

Well the skiers will be intermediate to expert skiers. I feel using realistic skiers of ability will give a more honest feedback on the ski's tested.

You have to look at things this way. In the ski mag tests when the Expert ex-olympian say's an Intermediates all mtn ski doesn't have enough beef. And intermediate that actually skis the ski might feel it has just enough. I feel the later info fits the criteria for a better test.

Last week of November. Hopefully for the first part of it. Then if it works well do it in March of each year. I'm working some final points out with one of the Intrawest marketing guys.
