This is pretty much just a slight addenum to Jetters outstanding work to add a few pics:
World War II Memorial:
So new! Finally it is done. I took these pictures on April 25th, 2004, before the memorial was opened to the public.

The World War II Memorial and Inscription
Here is the memorial with the entrance from the mall. The memorial is outstanding. It is long overdue in my opinion. I love the inscription.
There are flags with inscriptions that say something along the lines of "American troops went across the world not to conquer, but to restore freedom and liberty." I forget the exact quote. There were some other plaques and inscriptions I could not read including some bronze plaques with pictures depicting the war and the homefront.

Wall of Stars
The stars are hidden because I couldn't walk inside the memorial.

Wreath Pillars and Rainbow Fountains
Each pillar has a memorial wreath and the name of a US State or Territory that fought in the war. There are 56 of them. The fountain was already there.

World War II Memorial - View from Lincoln Memorial
Here is the view from the Lincoln Memorial with Washington Memorial and Capitol Building in the background. I like how great the memorial is without really breaking up the view that we are all accustomed to.
I think they did an outstanding job on the World War II Memorial. IMHO it is a very fitting place to stand and consider the honor, sacrifice, horror, and victory of the worlds greatest conflict.
.
Udvar-Hazy annex to the National Air & Space Museum
(annex is a misnomer.. it's bigger than the actual museum on the Mall!!!)

Enterprise
Here is the Space Shuttle Enterprise (wing leading edge sections are missing because they were used for testing the ET foam theory of the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy... also an OMS pod missing). It looks a lot smaller than when I was a tiny kiddo and got to sit in the pilots seat when it was set up on the launch pad in CA.

Boeing 307 Stratocruiser
They only made ten... and Howard Hughes wanted one of these so much that he bought TWA in order to get one!

Lockeed F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and Russian SA-2 Guidline SAM
This JSF prototype is the first plane ever to do a short take off, go supersonic, and do a vertical landing all in the same flight.
I'd put up a picture of the plaque commemorating my grandfather... but the museum didn't have it done yet... (that's why we went to DC!!!!!!!)
The museum was awesome! I love that stuff so much... family is very involved in aerospace.
.
The trip to Washinton was fun... I got to visit all the monuments I wanted and see the museums I loved. There was a HUGE march on the National Mall on April 25th... I now know what a million people looks like. I saw two helicopters that I thought might be the president's and the decoy fly over that day... Jetter can you confirm or deny? I wish I'd had more time for the museums and galleries.
