Foriegn companies can hold American patents (in fact, these days they file more than american companies do.) When Volant was purchased, Atomic would have gotten rights to the US patent on the Spatula. If they chose to file a coresponding patent in Austria, that's their business. Maybe Volant already did that. But, it's an US patent, and always will be a US patent.

Like I said, we'll have to see how Atomic plays this.

Most likely, Atomic will just sit on it. If the reverse sidecut thing comes back, they can sue everyone who's making them and produce their own; and if the reverse sidecut thing dies, well, it's no skin off their back.

If you had reverse camber without reverse camber, you'd be screwed. Think about it for a second. Post, then smoke crack. The reverse camber recessitates a reverse sidecut.

    Food For Thought:

On the walls of just about every other bar and ski shop I patronized in Switzerland sits a pair of very old skis made in the barrel stave style.....with reverse sidecut and reverse camber, metal edges and alpine bindings! It's not a new idea. The Spatula patent would have to be veeeery specific to the dimensions of the ski, construction, etc. I don't think you can really patent something as general as reverse sidecut reverse camber when the relatively modern application of it has already been around for 70+ years.

    Cheers
