We got on the Big Sandy in the Cheat River drainage. It's our bread and butter run here in Morgantown. Lucky for us there was a little snowmelt, a little rain and a 65 degree day the first week of January.
Big Splat is a class V+ drop in the middle of the run. It consists of 3 consequential drops. The first is on the river left starting behind that huge boulder. It's a small sticky hole that you have to hit online otherwise a couple rocks will deflect you off line and possibly into undercut hole hell.
JB sliding down the flake on the horseshoe drop.
JB paddling left about to drop the 15 footer in front of a splat rock, backed up by some scary undercut, cave mank.

River level is 6'2" , the splat rock is buried, notice all the junk on river right.

Quite a few good reasons I walk this rapid every time.
Sorry thats all the shots my little camera could handle that day in the cold water. So here are some more Sandy photo's from different trips.

Seal drop off Big Splat. Notice the splat rock on the left and the undercut cliff in the background.
Looks like MarsB going deep again.
Think that was a good start to the 2008 paddling season for me.
