Looks cool. I want one.
Probably safer than pulling the airbag out of your car and strapping it to your back.

Seen only pics... heard positive rumblings... seems like a good idea:

floats you

wonder about cost and weight?

$ 1150 cost/ 3kg for 30l pack.
Here is a link to a similar backpack

I haven't used either, but the one above has been around a while and seems to have some pretty decent statistics...
Would be pretty funny to see a blooper reel of guys hucking cliffs and having these things accidentally go off on the landings.
Compressed gas...is there a pyro trigger on this one too?

bought a snowpulse two weeks ago, it's lighter, more protective and more confortable than classic deuter ABS pack. I'll post a review in teach talk as soon as I have used it enough
The company is in verbier, and I bought it there!
just me but i dont like how the snowpulse wraps around your head, but on second thought it might help keep your head floating above the surface as opposed to the abs system, reguardless i have heard great things about airbags--there have been alot of avy deaths this year so more safety is a good thing
Here is a video of someone testing out the snowpulse at the OR show last month. It's kinda funny...

the canadian distrubutor is Canadian Powder Adventures, Chuck the owner patrol's part time at kicking horse. towards the end of the season we put a dummy in the pack, inflated it and then set a bag of ANFO out next to it. The thing went for a ride - size 3+, over a 30 m cliff and ended up on the surface, I was impressed enough to get one. The main advantages of the pulse as i can see is the life vest style design that protects the head and neck and the use of valves that use on Bernoulli's principle to draw air in from the ambient environment that result in a smaller gas canister. Interestingly enough the bag we used did on deflate after 90s.
ill just stick to my avalung
why would you just stick to your avalung? (disclaimer: I had an avalung and bought an ABS pack this year)
There was a report near Fernie this year of a guy going for a ride, and getting buried deep and having his avalung ripped out of his mouth. You can find it on Biglines.com if you want.
I heard of multiple "floats" this year with this one being the most dramatic http://www.abs-airbag.com/erfahrungs...g_view&thid=39
$1K is cheap compared to a funeral.
I know guys who'll bury you for a lot less than that. Cremation is even cheaper.
Point is, don't get yourself into the whole "your life is worth this amount x, so why not spend y on saving it?". Shit like that is why belts with RECCO can sell for $75. Shit like that is why people buy the raddest new beacons out there but don't know how to use them. If you have the knowledge, you should be able to avoid a huge multitude of the fatality-producing avalanches every year. If you're somebody who's constantly exposed to that kind of risk by nature of their job, then by all means, equip yourself in a business-like manor.
1k is a lot of money for something that has limited seasonal use.
OOOOOOOHHHH, I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!
I agree that the ABS or snowpulse shouldn't change anything inregards to other equipment you buy (beacons, shovels, probes), runs you decide to ski and people you ski with. It just gives you that second chance that you may not have. I truly hope that I never have to use mine and it will still be the best $1k I ever spent.
I look at this year in the PNW and all over BC & AB with a ton of people going for rides and some not surviving. Even avy pros were taking rides. I know that I am not as good at predicting as an avy pro.
And ya you can get a funeral cheap but I garantee that anyone on this board who were to pass away while skiing is not going to have a funeral less than $1k. I know, I recently been through it.
Ask any family member that you have if they would give you $1k so that you could live. Its a small price to pay.
I think we are at the tipping point for ABS systems. They are to backcountry skiers as seatbelts were to drivers 30 years ago. Or airbags were to cars 15 years ago. 15 years ago it was hard to get a car with an airbag now you can't get one without (and they do add to the price of the car).
One thing I find really interesting is that skiers & boarders are usually ahead of the curve compared to sledders when it comes to avi knowledge and gear. However there are a lot more sledders with these packs than skiers. You could argue that a typical sledder has more money to burn but we all make decisions on what we value and how much it is worth to each one of us.
So to make a long story short - no I don't agree with you however I hope that as more people buy the systems they come down in price which will enable people who think like you to justify their price.
I couldn't agree more with Gorgeskier.....while bakerboy raises a valid point in that most people with credit card can go buy a beacon and not know how to use it, i think he is way shortsided. Goto the snowpulse website and read the whitepapers on these products. the point is not to use the thing as a tool to make dumb decisions and feel invincible. But the fact is that most people are NOT swept away in giant slides with huge deep crowns but rather somewhat shallow slabs that have a good run. if beacons and knowledge took the survival rate above 50% and lowered the burial rate i think bakerboy may have a point. However cocky and shortsided with very little point is the way it reads. PULL YOUR HEAD OUT! the fact is most poeple spend more money on drinking, concerts, and buying weed than they do on personal safety. Even worse is few people know how to truely use the gear own.
Protecting your c-spine is huge as is creating breathing room and ending your ride in a position where your not face down may very well save your ass. WAY WAY cheaper than a funeral!
a wise friend once told me," money is money and stuff is stuff....you'll make more money and you'll buy more stuff." so....why gamble with your life casue you THINK you know it all.
i ordered two of these today!
